I am looking for any information about my g-g-grandmother
Teresa Italiano. She was married to Vito Cristiano and they
lived in Castelgrande, Italy in the 1880s. Their children were
Pasquale and Maria Guiseppi. I need help in identifying her
parents or siblings.

I am a granddaughter of Peter Italiano.
Surprisingly, the family came from Basilicata in 1911. That is the province where Potenza is located. I want to find out the origin of the name. Are there others from this region in Italy?

Surnames: Kinard/Kinnard, Gabriel, Italiano, Coffey, Roberts, Palmer, and many more.
I am also interested in the Italiano surname.
One of my dau. is married to an Italiano here in FL.
His dad and his dad's brother were put in an orphan's home somewhere near to Hormel, N,Y. (Or is it Hornel?)
"Papa Joe" was born 29 Jan 1925 and his brother was probably about 3 years younger or older. I do know his brother is deceased.

I don't know where to start to get information on Joe's family.
Any help would be appreciated.
Sincerely, MK

Hi. Regarding the Italiano's in New Orleans -
My great-great grandparents came to N.O. from Palazzo Adriano, Palermo, Sicily. They were Francesco (Frank) and Elisabetta (Elisabeth) Macaluso. (Italian women usually kept their surnames after marriage). He arrived here in 1890, she came later with two of their children in 1894 (on the Kronprinz Friedrich Wilhelm.) He was a shoemaker and they settled into New Orleans and we've apparently been here ever since.
I'm trying to research their roots in Sicily.
Maybe we're related??????

Hi!!!!!! Those are MY great grandparents. We are definately related. My mother, Mary Elaine Italiano, was born in New Orleans in 1927 to Mary Maria Dagro, who was married to Vincent Francis Italiano, son of Francesco and Elisabetta Macaluso. I heard that our family was from Palazzo Adriano, Sicily and I went there in the summer of 2007. It was high in the hills of central Sicily and mafia country. Although I don't know the language, I met a Macaluso in the bar!!!!! And from what I could figure out, there was one Italiano who lived there, Giusseppi (Joseph) but he had died. Have you found out anything else. I would like to know more about you. My personal email is terry.nelson@live.com

Dear Terry:

You may be more helpful to me than I would be to you.

Here what I know of my husband's side, "Italiano".

His grandfather came to the US through New Orleans. I understood that there were three brothers, one being my husband's grandfather, named Colgerio.Italiano. I was trying to find the ship that came in NO from Italy. Their family originates from Polermo, Italy.

According to the New York Census Bureau of 1930, Colgerio Italiano was married to Mararet, Their children were: Louise, Catherine, Jessie, Rosa, Matilda, Matthew and Agustus. They lived in City Island, New York City. I don't know how or when Colgerio moved into New York. He immigrated to the US in 1888

Margaret (Colgerio's wife) or Margretta's maiden name was Lagatutta.

If you have any information that maybe helpful, let me know. Particularly the ship that they may have sailed.

Best regards,

Donna

Surnames: Vita Maria Cristiano
We must be related. My grandfather was born late 1890s/1900 and his name is Vito Cristiano and he is from Castelgrande Italy. My grandfather was married to Laotilde Cerone and had three children, Domenico, Rosina and Guiseppe Cristiano. Vito also had a brother, Guiseppe Cristiano, who married Vito's wife's sister, Anna Rosa Cerone. Castelgrande is in the Potenza region near Basiclicata. Rosina still lives there and has two children, Ida Siaggese and Maria Pia. The Cristiano family is famous for having hosted St. Gerard at their home in Castelgrand during the 1700s when he was performing his miracles and charitable acts. Our family name is enscribed in a shrine of St. Gerard that stands about 20 miles outside of Castelgrande on a hill overlooking the ocean. You have to hike to get there and find someone to take you -- not easy to find.

My great grandfather's name was also Vito Cristiano. I don't know his year of birth but I would guess it to be around the 1880s. He was married young to Philomena Nardi and she died in an explosion at the family fireworks factory. I don't know the name of his second wife and am wondering if you are the family of the second wife. If you want to write me, please contact me at my e-mail at petedrummer@yahoo.com. My father, Domenico Cristiano, passed away a few days ago and I wish so much that I could speak to him about your question. I e-mail my cousin Ida in Italy so I can forward her questions to her if you like.
