Certain parts of the
DeLeon family went to
Louisiana and others went south to
Camargo, Tamaulipas. The
Benavides family who married into the DeLeons went to
Louisiana and later came back to
Texas. Parts of the
Benavides family were the founders of
Benavides, TX.
My GGGG grandfather Julian
de la Garza was married to a Leonor
Benavides and were founders in Victoria along with Martin
DeLeon. A daughter of Julian was married to Agapito
DeLeon (son of Martin) and after Agapito was killed by white outlaws she moved to
Camargo. Julian's last son,
Alejo de la Garza was brought as a baby to
Camargo in 1836 by his uncle and later ended up in San Diego-Concepcion, TX area as a grown man. This is discussed in my web page
www.brokersys.com/~joguerra/alejo1.html on
Alejo de la Garza.
I know that members of the
DeLeon family did go back to Victoria and found that their holdings had been taken over by the local white settlers, usually
Irish backgrounds. The laws had changed and of course the DeLeons had lost their influence. There must be some
DeLeon web pages that could better describe where they ended up. Sorry that I can't help you more although I know there have been reunions in Victoria celebrating the family. The site I have from my web pages tells of a local Hispanic Genealogical Society in Victoria and maybe they would know better.
