Help!
I am looking for the maiden name of my g.g.g grandmother. Born 1805 in either Upton, bucks or Ufton, berks. She died in Henley on Thames in 1892 aged 87. Her name was Eleanor - married to Joseph Harris. Eleanor had a daughter named Mary who married John Dearlove, Also of Henley on Thames.
I can find no trace of her marriage or birth. If any one knows please let me know - Thanks.

Thank you so much for that information. It was very helpful.
We had believed a family story that Eleanor's family were very well off and that Eleanor and Joseph Harris eloped together. It now looks like that story is not true.
Thanks again.
Tanya Lewis.

Hi Geoff,
I wonder if you can help, as you have let me know Eleanor Harris' maiden name of Streek.
You went back with the history of the Streek side for me, but I think there may be a mistake. I think Eleanors mother may have been Mirriam Elishaba.
I know this might seem strange, but a Mirriam married John Streek and had a daughter called Eleanor.
John and Ann Streek had children, Eleanor, born 1805, but their Eleanor was christened 6th July 1806, her sister Elizabeth who was christened 23rd July 1806 (is this odd? to be christened so close together?) and James who was christened in1808.
Could there have been two John Streeks in the area? both having daughters called Eleanor?
I have Eleanor living with her father ( a widower retired carpenter) named John Streek in the 1851 census.
I might be barking up the wrong tree and there is no reason to question this, I hope you do not mind but I just wondered if you could throw some light on this enquiry for me.

Hallo.
I have Elizabeth in my line. I have found that there are a number of John Streek's about, so it really depends if you can connect all of the children say through a common church or place.
It is not unknown to have two children born at different times baptized close together. It was sometimes done when a child was not expected to survive.
John's wife Ann, as far as I can make out from FreeBMD died Q2 1843 Easthampstead Berkshire ref 6-111.
John died Q4 1852? Easthampstead ref 2c 250. Same source.
I cannot find John and Ann on the 1841 census which would be a help. I looked at Easthampstead's two registration districts but they were very poor images, but I do not think that I missed them so they must have been elsewhere.
John was born Heckfield Hants c1777 baptized same 14/12/1777
of John Streek & Barbarah?
Is Ann's name only Ann Wardsworth as I have seen her referred to as Jane Wadsworth and also Ann Maria Wardsworth. Wadsworth is a much more likely name for the area (reference the brewery) and Googling does not produce much at all.
