I'm trying to locate the death date and burial location for Cynthia Chapman Carter. Born Nov 1809 to Timothy and Dolly Fuller Carter in Haddam, she married Alfred H. Carter. I found Alfred on Find A Grave, died Jan 13, 1860 and is buried in River View Cemetery, E. Haddam. The last I find of Cynthia is in the 1880 census, living in East Haddam with her sister (Sophia Chapman) and her children; Anna and Timothy Carter, and Laura Carter Payne and her children Winogene and Horace Payne.

Thanks,
Taraleen

Taraleen,

You will probably find the most information searching the Hale Collection. It's a transcription of gravestones taken in the 1930s. I believe East Haddam's transcription is online. Search "Hale Collection" and "River View Cemetery" or "East Haddam."

I couldn't find a death notice for Cynthia (Chapman) Carter but I found the Oct 16, 1902 obituary of her Civil War veteran son, Alfred Russell Carter. Would you care to see that one? It names his surviving children; Burton and Ivy Carter and surviving siblings; Mrs Laura Payne of Meriden and Mrs Anna S. Perry of Goodspeeds. It also mentions that a sister, unamed, died a few weeks before Alfred and that their brother Timothy Carter of Goodspeeds "coincidentally" died of the same illness as Alfred's just two weeks before him.

I am not related.

Hi Joseph,
The only thing I see on an Almira Chapman is from the Chapman Family, descendents of Robert Chapman of Say-Brook that you can find in the card catalog here. There is an Almyra, born Oct. 6, 1804 to Caleb and Martha Gates Chapman, one of 11 children. Caleb moved to Stephentown.
