I found a James Herald in the Town of Moreau - the northern part of Saratoga County. He was the Town Collector from 1829-1833 and was elected Justice of the Peace in 1834 and 1843. This information came from Sylvester's History of Saratoga County. No other Heralds were named in the book.

from Calendar of Wills...Albany County NY... 1626-1835. Will #1251, William Neely. Written 5 Nov 1769, probated 7 Nov 1770. He was of Wallkill Precinct, Ulster Co, NY. Makes legacies to wife (not named), daughters Sarah, Martha, wife of Benjamin Hains, & Martha's children John, William & Elizabeth Hains, dau Elizabeth HARLOW (this is spelling in orininal) and grandchildren WILLIAM, HENRY & ELIZABETH HARROLD (my caps), and finally to his son William Neely. Executors son William and James McCobb, merchant. Witnesses William Young, William Stewat & Thomas Neely (I'm guessing this last is a brother since he mentions no son Thomas). I've been digging around on the Rosa/Rose side trying to connect one of your Anna's brothers (John & Cornelius) to a Garrett Rose on my line, born at Schaghticoke between 1806 and 1812.

Still haven't pinned them exactly but by process of elimination, I've ruled out all the other Roses in Rensselaer County in the target time period. I've even ruled out Cornelius' descendants, which leaves John's. He had 3 sons but the records are maddeningly quiet about their adult lives.

Hope I've helped you.

I have no further information on Philip and was wondering if you might have an idea of which family, if any, he might fit into. I do have a census that says that his father was born in Prussia if that helps any.
