Carleen, I too am an Escuela descendant, along with Myles whom you contacted in this regard. We have been working together on this line. Our great-grandfather was Domingo Escuela, SR. who was in MONROE COUNTY from as early as 1903 up to as late as 1917. Domingo was born in Havana, Cuba in 1871 and had a sister named Eusebia Escuela born in 1870. There are many descendants from Eusebia, but they are Alvarez, her husb. name. I currently do not know who their parents were but have always suspected they came from Spain. I have found the Escuela name to be quite rare in web research and I am happy just to find another! Some dates would help to see if my Domingo could be related to your husband's grandfather, but from him down I don't see any ties. Maybe we share a common ancestor much further up the tree. I have posted Domingo's descendants on my genealogy page, and a picture of him & wife Rita Maria Ruiz Check it out, then click on the Escuela details.

Looking for information on husband's grandparents Abejardo/Albert Escuela and Jennie/Justa Diaz. Family history says Abejardo left Spain to England to New York and then to Florida. He and Jennie are listed in 1908 Jacksonville City Directory. He is listed as farmer. They had a boarder, Antonio Escuela, cigarmaker. Their first child was born 6-16-08, Victor William and second son in December 1909, Albert E. There were a couple more children, some say two boys, some say a boy and a girl. Around 1920 the three younger children were adopted or put into foster care. I do not know what happened to the parents. Victor went on his own and was living for a period on the wharf and docks at Tampa. He enlisted in the US Navy abt 1924 and the government changed his name to Esquilla. The second son, Albert, apparently ended up with a foster family named Hicks and was called Johnny. He went by that name for the rest of his life, legally changing it to Hicks in 1970. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure if anyone is going to read this, being the last post was 08/99. I will try anyways.... My name is Anastasia Escuela and I am 30 years old. My father's name was Albert Frank Escuela. He was born November 11, 1948. I never met my grandfather but his name was Albert Escuela also. From the stories I have heard, he was a foster child, he drove a taxi cab for a long time, and he was one of the sweetest men one could ever meet. I don't know much about my past but would really like to. I reside in Tampa, Fl and have been here all my life. Well I'm not going to write too much being that I think that this is an abandoned site, if not email me.

i tried to find info on ancestry but no Albert F. listed
in their census in Hillsboro Co. Fl.
I did find a death date for an ALBERT F. ESCUELA that died 9 April, 1998. He was bn. Nov. 11, 1948.He was 49 yrs. However, I guess you had that ifo.
Also have an ABELARDO ESCUELA that emigrated to Tampa
in 1895 from Havana, Cuba. Did you have a DULCE ESCUELA
in the family. There was one that died in Hillsboro Co.
in 1918. Her age was not given. There were numerous
Domingo's to Tampa.
It has been difficult to find anything on Ancestry
censu in the past month. Hopefully, it will be
fixed soon. The census only go to 1930.
I'm sorry I could not find more for you.
Phyllis
