Need info on Burketts in Ohio ca 1820. My Burkett was b 1817 in Montgovery Co, OH. He later moved to IN. Henry is in 1850 IN census, but he came from Ohio. Looking for his parents.
Who was the family of Nathaniel Burkett, Montgomery Co, OH, 1820?
I appreciate any help.

Hi Pat,

I believe your Henry born in 1817 in Montgomery Co. would be the Henry who married Mary Short & had 12 kids. Nathaniel Burket and Elizabeth Kessler were Henry's parents. Nathaniel was born in 1784. His parents were Jehu Burkhard and Magdalene (aka Motlene / Matlene)orignally of Basle Switzerland. I have done extensive research on this Burket line. I descend from Nathaniel's brother Henry who married Elizabeth Rinker in NC & later moved to Montgomery Co., OH. I look forward to hearing from you.

Pat --

I have a copy of "The Descendants of Jehu Burket", a pamphlet written in 1940 that includes your Henry. I've transcribed the pamphlet and can e-mail it to you if you're interested.

I an descended from Henry's brother, Elias.

I am also related to the Burket family through your Henry's brother Charles. Do you have any information about that branch? Do you know where these Burkets are buried?

Thanks,
Norma Hansen

Hi Norma,

You said you are related through Henry & Nathaniel's brother Charles, but I don't have record of Charles. Here's what I have:
Parents: Jehu Burkhard & Magdelene Croll
Children: Mary, Christian, Jehu, Henry, Magdelene, Elizabeth, Abraham, Barbara & Nathaniel.
Does this jive with what you have?
Lisa

Sorry, I got a generation off. Yes, I have the same children for Jehu. My line from Jehu is

Jehu>Henry>Charles>David>Dora Burkett Stoner>
then obviously the family name changes since my connections starting with Dora are female.

Lisa,
Until recently, I have only been documenting direct ancestors so my file is not as extensive as many. Also I am currently undating some of my sources. I will be glad to send you a file with my decendants of Charles if you send your email address.

Interestingly I did not have Charles 2nd marriage to Nancy Royer which was documented in the Burket-Fouts paper. So I will add it now. Charles son, David, who is my ggg-grandfather was, like his grandfather a Church of the Brethren Elder or minister. I have his Brethren hymnal.

Hi again,

How neat to have his book! When I first started researching I wasn't sure how indepth I wanted to go, but very early on I came across a book written about one of my female lines. The man who wrote it did so as a gift to his children before his death - he wanted them to know after he was gone just how many "family" members were out there, so the book started with a couple from the 1700s and documented the thousands of descendants. It inspired me to certainly add that data any time I come across it, though I focus my real research time on my ancestors themselves. So little time, so many relatives!

My e-mail address is <yourfamilyhistory@attbi.com> I have a website <yourfamilyshistory.com> (note the added "s") as I do a bit of genealogy consulting too. You might be interested though as the homepage has an old photo of a family taken around 1890. The man is Conover Burket (my great great grandfather), his wife Viola, and their 3 children. I recently found and spoke with the great grand daughter of the girl, Florance Burket, which was really neat.
I look forward to receiving your info. Thanks, Lisa
