I would like to obtain data on Robert Bicerstaff, a British soldier who came to New York, then called "New Amsterdam" about 1664 when the British ttok control from the Dutch. He had a daughter, Elizabeth Bickerstaff (1640-1712) who married Lt. George Hall (1638-c.1675). They had a daugher, Mary Hall (1664-1709) who married John Biggs (1659-1707). In turn they had a daughter, Elizabeth Biggs (1702-1788) who married Benjamin Alger (1705-1759)

Not sure if you are still involved in the message board, but would like to know more about Robert Bickerstaff, if you found anything. George Hall is a family father, so any info about Robert or Elizabeth would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bonnie

George Hall aka Joris Haal was born in 1636 in England and died on 18 March 1676/77 in Kingston, Ulster Co., New York. He married Elizabeth Bickerstaff in 1662 in Kingston, Ulster Co., New York. She was born 1640 in Kingston, Ulster Co, New York and died 1712 in Kingston, Ulster Co., New York. She was the daughter of Robert Bickerstaff who was born circa 1615 in England. Note: Robert Bickerstaff was a British soldier, and was stationed at Esopus, (Kingston), Ulster Co. New York and given land at Marbletown, New York in 1668. He was discharged in 1670.
George Hall was a British soldier when the English took over New Amsterdam, renamed “New York” He was a British officer with the rank of Lieutenant in the Militia
commanded by Sir Richard Nicholls. They were to settle the dispute between England and the Netherlands over the colony known as New Amsterdam. The Dutch surrendered to the English forces and New Amsterdam was renamed “New York” The English soldiers were given large grants of land for their service. On 4 April 1669 the commissioners appointed by Governor Lovelace and he formally organized the militia of Hurley and Marble-Town. George Hall was a soldier in this company from Marble-Town and on 4 April 1669 he was appointed a Captain in the company for Hurley and Marble-Town. Walter, thank you for the wonderful detail regarding George Hall. Do you have any idea if he is related to Thomas Hall who was a tobacco farmer on Long Island? Were you able to find any further information about birth dates or place, etc. for Robert Bickerstaff? I will return to Kingston in a few months to spend time in the library, court house and other research sites, but your information will serve as a wonderful starting point. My mother's family is Brundage from Ontario County, NY. A later George Brundage married Mary Ellen Hall in 1857 after both the Hall and Brundage familes had made their way from NY to NJ and then to Ohio. Later this couple made their way to Wyoming Territory where they were a founding family in Sheridan county. A long "thank you," but who knows, you might find it interesting. Bonnie

No,I'm sorry I don't have any data on Thomas Hall who was a tobacco farmer on Long Island.Nor do I have any additional data on Robert Bickerstaff who was a British soldier. I don't know if there is any additional data on him. Perhaps there is but only additional research will perhaps bring any new addition information.
Since you are going to Kingston, Ulster Co., New York I feel sure that you will probably find additional data that I may not have when you do your research? At least I hope so?
