Recovering data from WorldConnect

After a computer crash I recovered a GED from my WorldConnect file and after uploading to a new FTM file realized that it did not contain all those born after 1930. Is there any way to change the cutoff date to much later than 1930 briefly to include more of the living on another recovered GED, then go back and change it to 1930 so those living will not be displayed on the internet?

It sounds like you downloaded the "public" version of your GEDCOM using the link that anyone can see while viewing your tree. Instead, you want to log in to your account where you will see a link to download the original file you uploaded.

Yup, that is what it sounds like. But it's not. I did sign on to my account and clicked on the Download GEDCOM. Now you have me believing I really messed up and I probably did. In the panic of losing my 32 bit Windows XP computer and my 2006 FTM, then having to buy a new 64 bit Windows 7 machine and trying to use the FTM 2006 in it, then trying PAF and not liking it, other options, then finally buying a 2012 FTM and not liking it either, I probably created a GEDCOM I downloaded from my WorldConnect file w/o the after 1930s people in it, somehow. Then probably uploaded that one back to WC. I did save the original GEDCOM on my laptop but sometime during this nightmare I deleted it, thinking all was well, and now it can't be found. I think I only LOST several 100 of us living folks, you know, the ones the most difficult to research. Then to top it off I've lost the downloaded the new FTM 2012 I just bought after thinking I had everything back to the way it was after installing the FTM 2006 on my laptop. Needless to say this old man don't like Windows 7 and FTM 2012. I'm just a slow learner I guess.

Thanks

Sorry about all your troubles. The GEDCOM you download through your login is an exact copy of what you uploaded, so it does sound like you have lost some data.

Tip: every few months, purchase a cheap flash drive, put a backup or two on it and just set it aside for "in case". You won't be tempted to delete stuff from it if it's out of sight :-)

Yuup, thanks. I did save a copy of the last GED from my old desktop on my XP laptop but in process of trying to install 2006 on laptop, I really screwed things up. Reading other posts it seems lot of folks have troubles with older FTMs and Windows 7. So I'm not alone
