It appears that I have been looking for information about these Harrisons for 10 years! I have a little more than I did back when I posted my original question which I will gladly share. Robert Harrison was the son of Moses Harrison and his wife Lavinia. They (Moses and Lavinia) moved to Wake County in the 1790's with all their children. Moses died intestate in 1803 but his estate records are recorded and we learn the names of all his children. Lavinia died a few years later. Robert served in the War of 1812 and was a prosperous merchant in Raleigh. He married Mary E. Tucker, d/o Wright Tucker and his wife, Elizabeth Williamson, in 1820. They lived on Blount St. in Raleigh NC where they raised their 4 children including William Henry Harrison. The father of Moses was a William Harrison from VA who had bought property in Wake County. I know nothing about him but would like to find out more. I haven't found a will of a William Harrison which might mention a Moses. And, I haven't been able to find out anything about Lavinia, a marriage record, or anything hinting at who she was. I will share more about your William Henry Harrison that comes from a book on Wake County and a little more which I have learned about his wife, Charlotte Lea, from Petersburg.

I would be very interested in the names of the children of Moses and Lavinia Harrison. I suspect there is a family tie between William Henry Harrison, the Mayor, and William Henry Harrison who married Zillie E. Burden. I had the mistaken idea that William Henry Harrison, the mayor, was my great grandfather.

Thanks

Nell,
Thanks again for the names of the children of Moses and Lavinia Harrison, this information was very helpful.
I have some information regarding William Henry Harrison that you might find interesting.

Based on records I received from the National Archives, he enlisted with the North Carolina First Regiment of Foot Volunteers, Company I, Captain W.E. Kirkpatrick's company. His "joined for duty" date was 01/29/1847 at Wilmington, NC and his rank was listed as 4th Corporal. His occupation was listed as a student and he was described as 20 years of age, light complexion, blue eyes, light hair, 5 feet 11 inches and born in Raleigh, NC. He was promoted to 1st Sergeant on 08/21/1847. During 1847 to 1848 he was apparently in Mexico and at one time detailed to service escorting wagons to Monterey. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 04/20/1848. He was mustered out on 08/07/1848 at Smithfield, NC.

His Civil War National Archive records reveal he enrolled for active service on 05/21/1861 as Captain of Company K, (Raleigh Rifles), 4th Regiment, NC Volunteers (later known as the 14th Regiment North Carolina Infantry). His occupation was listed as Mayor. He was present and accounted for until he resigned on April 25,1862. The Raleigh Standard Times noted on 05/07/1862 that the regiment was reorganized near Yorktown, VA and that Capt. Wm H.Harrison of this city received a highly flattering vote for Colonel even though he had forbidden the use of his name as a candidate. It appears he later became a Lt/Col of the 1st Regiment NC Home Guards(or NC Militia) in Wake County. There are a number of articles in the Raleigh Standard Times regarding Mayor Harrison.

There is a photo of his gravestone in the Oakwood Cemetary in Raleigh available through www.findagrave.com. There is also a photo of the gravestone of Charlotte Stockdelle Lea and information about Mary "Lou" Louise Harrison. I have attached an article regarding Louisa Virginia Holden's Death that I found in The Landmark (Statesville, NC)

I have other information if it would be of interest.

Best Regards,
John L. Anderson

Thank you so much, John. I love the personal description. I was told that there used to be a portrait of him in the NC Archives, but it's been moved or put in storage. The man who works there and told me couldn't find out where it is now. I went to Oakwood Cemetery one day and found the gravesite.

For some reason, I didn't get your attached file with the Louisa Holden article. I would love to see that if you don't mind sending it again. And yes, I would love any other information you have on the family! As I mentioned before, I can only go back to William's grandfather, Moses Harrison. I have a lot of information about his Tucker ancestors though. Will share that with you if you are interested.
