Randy,

what happened to the box for your user name to add a postem? I can't go back and 'edit', or remove it.
The gedcom owner can't remove it either.

Did you login at MyAccount: https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/

Your Post-ems should be listed there with links so you can idit them--mine are.

Just try to edit one of your own ..... what you're describing sounds like what you'd see if you're looking at a postem someone else added.

Mine has the edit option for my own Post-ems and delete for ones added to my trees by others--I can't edit someone else's Post-em.

Joan, Yes I can get the list of postems I've added, then delete them. That's what I've been doing.
Why do I have to do that?
When I add a postem, my choices are 'preview' and 'post'. The box where I used to type in my user name is gone.

I was contacted by the owner of the gedcom and asked to remove them since she could not do it herself.
She gets an email saying the postem was added, and used to be able to click the link and delete it. She can't do that anymore.

here is the link to a postem I added.

let me know if you see any boxes to edit or delete. I see only the postem.

I'm using Vista and IE8, if that has anything to do with it.

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igmpostem.cgi?op=sho...

if that doesn't work, the postem is on the gedcom dowdcj
person is Thomas Ada Stockton.

Thanks for any help.

She needs to be logged on/signed into the site in order to delete post-ems posted to her db's/tree.

They'll also disappear if she updates the tree.

You're not obliged to delete your post-ems.

I don't see that option from your screen shot but I don't know how you accessed that Post-em or if you were logged in or not. Is this what you are seeing if you go to MyAccount and click the link there to view your Post-em?

Joan, as you know, I've used Rootsweb since the early days.
Of course I was signed in to add the postem; you HAVE to log in to add a postem. That did not change.

I accessed that postem by going to her gedcom and looking at it. It's what she sees when she looks at it. I was not logged in. Why would that make a difference? The boxes were there before. If you did not know the user name, there was nothing you could do it.

I will try it again, logged in.

Yes, when I view my postems, it is there and I can delete it.
-----------------
No postems do not disappear when you update. In the past, I have deleted postems my postems from gedcoms that have removed! They just hang out in cyberspace.

A gedcom can change the ID number of an individual, then the postem is on the wrong person.

A gedcom can have postems from years ago if neither party removes them

Okay. That was the trick. Logged in, I can edit or delete, without a user name. Not logged in, no buttons at all.

Thanks
