"Tex" McLeod Rodeo and Rope Trick Artist of the '20s - '40s

Does anyone have any memories or information on Alexander "Tex" McLeod. He was relatively famous in those years ('20s to '40s), especially in England where he eventually decided to stay. He was born in Manor, Texas (just outside of Austin) and did gain some minor notoriety in Hollywood films, but mostly in rodeo championships and later in Will Rogers style humor, but with much more rope-twirling skills. Any responses will be appreciated. You can e-mail me at fragar@swbell.net.

Question. Was "Tex" McLeod the son of George McCloud
who lived in Luling ,Texas for a short time?

My great-great-grand aunt married George McCloud who
I understand was a teacher in Luling. They moved to England
in the early 1900's. We know they had a son nickname "Tex"
who became famous in England as a "cowboy" in the silver screen and rodeos. He was also a trick roper.
A few years ago some of our relatives were interviewed by a
production crew from England doing a documantery on "Tex".
I know that "Tex" came fro England to visit my dad in Seguin,Texas and some relatives in San Antonio,Tex. He brought along with him some books, pictures, and other things that showed what he did in England. All our family referred to him as "Tex" McCloud except one of the older aunts who I heard say "Tex" McLeod.
If this is the same "Tex" he would be related to Canuta Davila
from Luling who married George McCloud. She had one brother
Juan and one sister-Francisca.

We had a Davila family reunion in Luling last year and we had over 850 relatives attend. This year we had it in Seguin
and "Tex" was one of the main topics.
My name is Edward S. Davila 418 W. Kingsbury, Seguin,Tx 78155 ph.830-401-1637.
I would appreciate any information that you can share.

Thank You,
Edward Davila

Hello, my name is Alexander McLeod. Tex McLeod was my great uncle. I'm doing a family tree and have a little information. My great grandfather George McLeod, fathered seven children, George, Julie, Alexander, Crosby, Jesse, Donald and Johnny. Tex was my father's uncle. My great grandfather lived in Luling after migrating and eventually moved to San Antonio. We know his wife's name was Candelaria, but don't know her maiden name. Tex left San Antonio early in life and moved to England. Ocassionally the family would hear from him and his escapades in Rodeo and movies would often come up at family gatherings.

My busuness in the 60s and 70s led to my often meeting Tex who lived in Tidy Street Brighton and ran a hostel for homeless men.He had recently(in the early sixties) become separated fron his wife (fifth,I think) and had at least one child of about 6 years. He also kept in contact with a former wife by name Vera Cody.He had a son serving in thr British Navy.
Although living in reduced circumstances he was highly regarded in the town and numbered the highest among hie friends. He showed me many souvenirs from his stage career and was vey kind to those who lodged with him.
I can doubtless recall more facts if you are interested.
I have a photo given me showing Tex with the late Duke of Norfolk Marmaduke.I have also a photo of the front of the London Hippodome with his name in lights,
I changed my workplace in 1971 and lost contact but I believe he died in the street in Brighton in 1973.
He was alarger than life character.

My father was a cousin of Tex. I live in Seguin,Texas which is 24 mi. east of Luling. In 2002 and 2003 we held family reunions. In 2003 the reunion was held in Luling and there were 850 relatives in attendance. We knew Tex was a relative but we don't have much information on his mother and father other that Canuto Davila, whom we trace our roots to, was his mother's brother and that they had one other sister whose name was either Alvina,Albina, or Fransica(Panchita). We also know that she married George McLeod who came from Scotland and was a teacher in Luling. Tex kept in contact with several of his cousins that lived and some are still living in this area. We been able to put some of the family tree together on Canuto's side and found out that we have a very large family just on his side. We found one relative on his other sister's side and who appreciate any information you can supply us with. My email is davilabq@swbell.net I would like to hear from you. Where do you live? Do you live in England or USA?
