Former Sapulpa High School teacher Mr. W. H. Bill
Shaw, 73, of
Sapulpa, died Thursday at St. John Medical Center,
Tulsa.
In accordance with Mr. Shaws wishes, graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Memorial
Park Cemetery,
Ada, with the Rev. Tom Eggebeen officiating. Former student, Randy
Anderson, will be singing.
The body will lie in state at
Criswell Funeral Home, 815
Arlington,
Ada, Saturday morning.
He was born June 7, 1915, in
Vanoss, Okla. He was a graduate of
Vanoss High School and East Central University,
Ada, and received his masters degree from the University of
Oklahoma.
Mr. Shaw served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946. He married wife, Ila, on April 16, 1938.
Survivors include wife Ila of the home; sons Ronald
Houston of
Ogden,
Utah, and William Gary of Steamboat
Springs, Colo.; sister Carolyn
Tilley of
Purcell, Okla.; brother Lester
Shaw of
Henderson, Nev.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Shaw was a teacher for 34 years. He taught in Healdton and Tishomingo before coming to
Sapulpa in 1958. He was Sapulpas Teacher of the Year in 1979 and retired in 1984.
Mr. Shaw taught industrial arts and was known throughout the community for his generosity. He also taught math, science, woodshop, history, leather crafts and auto shop. He was instrumental in establishing the Industrial Arts Department at the high school and was a key figure in developing its audio visual department. He also worked as a stagecraft director, and helped produce approximately 75 play sets.
