My ancestor, James Edmond Hunter is buried in Martin's Prairie Cemtery (d. 1899), but I cannot find the exact date of death or location of burial of his father, George Hunter. I know he died between 1900-1910 because his wife is listed as a widow in the 1910 Grimes Co. Census. I did find info about George as a Confederate from Grimes County in the Civil War. Also cannot find any info on William A. Hunter (son), b. 1859 and lived with his parents, Martha and George Hunter in Grimes County. Don't think he ever married.
I can check the Grimes County Death Records for you as well as the marriage records. I will let you know what I find.
I looked up all the Hunter's buried in Grimes County and here is what I found. I am going to the courthouse this afternoon to look in the death records.

Thank you so much for looking this up for me. I wonder if the Mr. Hunter that was moved from another cemetery to Oakland was my George Hunter. Have you had a chance to look at the local death records yet? Again, I appreciate all of this hard work.

Re: George Hunter, b. 1834, d. 1903
Thank you so much for that information, unfortunately that is not my Hunter family but it is descendants from his prior marriage to Lillie Gay Follis. But if they are buried there, then perhaps the grandparents, George A. Hunter [b.1834, d. 1903] and Martha E.S. Hunter [b. 1839, d. 1931], are buried close by. This gives me hope of locating their graves. Thanks again.
I am in the W. D. Hunter/John Hunter line buried in Zion Cemetery near Iola, TX. Did the George Hunter connection that you were researching for a viewer get resolved? In my search, I think I found a George Hunter that was a brother to either W. W. Hunter or W. D. Hunter. W. W. is W. D.'s father as I recall. I would need to get into my hard file records to get this "right".
Are you in the Hunter line?
I am in the Alexander Hunter, George Alexander Hunter line. George is the only one that came to Texas. The rest of his siblings stayed in Cahaba, Dallas County, Alabama.
Ok. My Hunter line came to Texas about from Louisiana, I think. The various census have different state origins for the same person, so not sure where they came from. Looks like we are different lines. Do you have any "Edmunds" or "Edmonds" connections in your line from the Iola, Texas area? They were in Texas about 1859 from Virginia by way of Tennessee. That is my mother's side.
My George and his wife, Martha, went to Louisiana first. Their 1st child, James Edmond was born in Louisiana. George and James Edmond both died in Grimes County. James Edmond married Callie Tipton. The whole family lived in several different counties in Texas before their deaths. Soooo, we might be related after all.
