I found an old posting that mentioned a Marie Dunckle b. abt 1785 in Centre Co. who married Adam Loeffler. I am looking for information on Adam Loeffler (Leffler, Lefler) or any Leffler who may have come from Northumberland Co. Would be glad to receive any information or lead. Am always willing to share what I have.

Lora,
I have a 3rd great grandmother named SARAH LEFFLER who was born 11 March 1812 and believe it was in Centre co, PA. She married SAMUEL MYERS of Centre co, PA. 1830/31. I do not know who her parents were nor siblings. Sam and Sarah moved from PA to Sandusky co OH then to Tama co IA and last to Smith co KS. I found in the PA census index an ADAM LEFLER in 1810 Centre co, and in the years 1840/1850 in Cambria co PA. 1810, he was the only LEFLER listed and thought he could be the 4th great grandfather. That is all I have. Does anything match with your research?

I am a descendant of Samuel Washington Myers, son of Samuel Myers and Sarah Leffler. I know his parents and his siblings, along with birth and death dates, but have been unable to find anything on the Leffler family.
There is suppose to be a family history out there somewhere on the Samuel Hudson family (his wife was Hannah Cornelia Myers) but I have been unable to locate it.

Do you have any dates for Sarah Leffler -- even approximate dates would help. I don't have any information on her, but will keep the name in my files and post anything I find.

You have to be Derry's sister Karen? I am one of his neighbors, Michele Leffler. We are trying to make a connection to my Leffler's and yours. I was wondering if you have anything on when Adam Lefler came to the US?

I'm sure you probably have all this information already but I thought I'd pass it along just in case. I research early Leffler families in Ohio and was given this information by another Leffler researcher:

Your Sarah Leffler was the daughter of Johannes Heinrich (went by Henry) Leffler and Maria Elisabeth Kerstetter, who was born 1/22/1797 Northumberland Co., PA; Maria Elisabeth's bapt.record in Himmel Church records). Johannes Heinrich was the son of Gottlieb (immigrant) and Eve Leffler of Berks Co. and later, Northumberland County, PA. Maria Elisabeth Kerstetter was the daughter of Leonard and Susanna Kerstetter of Northumberland Co., PA.

Johannes Heinrich and Maria Elisabeth Leffler had at least nine children, including the following:

Elizabeth Leffler born 1785 Northumberland Co., PA bapt. 4/3/1785
Samuel Leffler born 1792 Northumberland Co., PA died 1874 married a REBECCA born 1801.

Sarah born 11 March 1812, beleived to ahve been born in OH who married Samuel Washington Myers,(Mary Myers' brother) and died 17 May 1890 in Smith Co, KS)

Mary and Samuel Myers were the children of John A. Myers born 5 Feb 1773/1774 Germany and died 12 Feb 1856 (buried in the Holter Cemetery, Jackson Twp, Sandusky Co., OH
with wife Catherine Mecelia born 22 Sep 1775 in Germany and who died 9 Jun 1856).

Mary Myers Leffler is buried with her husband, John Leffler and son Barney. In the 1850 census, John Leffler is listed as a farmer in Jackson, Sandusky Co., OH. He has the following children
by Mary Myers:

Margaret Leffler born 1832, OH

The information on Samuel Myers and family came from the New England Hist & Gen. Magazine of 1922.

I have further info on these lines if you're interested.

The parents of Sarah Lefler who married Samuel Myers is Adam Lefler and Anna Maria (Mary) Dunckle/Dunkel. Her name was Salome and nickname was Sarah. She was born 11 Mar 1812 in Centre Co., PA just like the 1875 Kansas census shows. She was baptised 05 Jul 1812 at Nittany Valley Union Church Baptism records, Marion Twp., Centre County, Pennsylvania.

1810 census for Adam Lefler in Walker Twp. shows his father in law and 2 brother in laws a few lines below.

Melchior DUNKLE, Walker Twp., Oct. 2, 1823 - Nov. 12, 1825
child: John, Jacob, Henry, Barbara Smith, Mary Lefler, Elizabeth Emerick
EX: son, John, Francis Mc Ewen, Wm McEwen
Witnesses: Wm Kean, Lewis Mc Kean
Source: Wills of Centre, PA, 1800-1853, Pg. 186 Adam Lofler is listed with filing receipts to the estate of Melchoir in 1823.
He also is in attendance at a Vendue, held the 21 Nov 1823 regarding his father in law's estate.
The estate was not finalized until 1825.

They moved to Wayne Co. sometime after Mary's father, Melchior Dunckle died. 1826 tax list does not show them in Wayne so move was after those taxes.

1835 Adam bought land in Seneca county. In 1848 he sells this land to his three living sons.
