Howdy!

I am looking for any information on the CANFIL family of Sweetwater, Nolan Co>Co., Texas. My great-grandfather, Charles CANFIL, who was born in Haddam,
Washington Co., KS, moved to Sweetwater and had a fair-sized ranch there
around the first or second decade of this century. At some time after that,
Minnie MORRISON CANFIL, widow of Charles' son, Lloyd Canfil, probably moved to
Sweetwater from Richland, MO., with her two sons, Lloyd Earl and Arthur Jesse
Canfil (the last being my father, who is still living). Minnie's father was
Jesse P. MORRISON, b. July 05, 1843,
February 13, 1930. Jesse was a Civil War veteran, having served in Co. C,
15th Texas Cavalry, CSA.

At some time another son of Charles Canfil, Arthur CANFIL, settled in the
Rotan, Fisher Co., TX area and became a rancher, marrying first Eula Bell
BOONE and later Tryphania KEY. (One living son of Arthur and Tryphania is
David Key CANFIL, now a professor at Oxford, England.) There was at least one
other son of Charles Canfil, Weldon CANFIL, who was also in that area.

My research is still very weak on this branch of my family, but I am trying to
correct that. Please email me if you have any information on the Canfil
family!

I am a volunteer in this County.

I do not find any reference to Canfil or Morrison families you seek in "The First 100 Years of Nolan County"

Thank you very much for the information about Dr. Arthur W. CANFIL. Indeed, that Dr. Canfil was my great-uncle. His son, David Key Canfil, my first cousin once removed, is a professor at Oxford University in England. He made the first cultural study of the Samaritans of Israel/Palestine.

According to my father, Arthur Canfil, Sr., his Uncle Arthur was indeed a successful chiropractor. Typhania Key, his second wife, died a few years back. Did you know he also sold bottled "mineral" water?

Interesting to hear there is a Canfil Street in Sweetwater! I will try to find more about Arthur W.'s brother, Lloyd Canfil, and their father, Charles Canfil. Thanks for your information!

Hi! I've done a little research on Dr. Arthur W. CANFIL of Sweetwater. In fact, there is a street in Sweetwater called Canfil Street, in honor of Dr. CANFIL, who was a chiropractor. I do not know if he is part of the same line of Canfils you are researching, but I do know that he lived in Fisher County for a while after he left Nolan County. What do think?

Yes, I did know that he sold mineral water from the famous Grogan Wells here in Sweetwater in Nolan County. I recently interviewed a lady whom Dr. CANFIL treated in 1941. She told me that for two weeks her diet consisted of nothing but mineral water and carrot juice. She had to take two baths in the famous water each day, and her neck was messaged daily. Her problem was blindness, and she said that the treatments improved her vision.

Eleven years after you posted your note...

Hope you are still around! Used to email a lot with David Canfil; daughter named We had a lot of great visits online. I'm near Fort Worth. Have a son in Los Angeles. Was trying to find information on source of her first name. Unusual one. Note that she was named after her mom.
