I am trying to locate any Rodgers that is connected to Wiley Richard Rodgers b. abt 1849 TN? (at least it said so on 1900 TX censes. ) He lived in Giles Co. TN for several years as well as Franklin Co. and Lincoln Co and possiably Alabama., around Rogersville.
He married Eliza Watkins in 1872 had there first child Richard W. Rodgers in 1873 in Chatnooga TN. There second Nathan was born in Dieshard in Franklin Co. TN and then Mary Etta Was born in Giles Co. in 1878.
It appears that something may have happened to Eliza Watkins as Wiley married a Jane Summerford of Lincoln Co. TN in abt 1881 they had a child Lulu Rodgers in 1881 she is burried in cem. in Blue Ridge TX Collin Co TX in 1895.
Wiley married again in about 1887 to Mary Louella Bell and they had Mary Bell (Velma ) Rodgers in 1887 in Giles Co. then Rutha Mae b.1888 in Giles Co and then they must have migrated to TX in about 1890 as they had there next child John Frelean Rodgers b. 1893 in Collin Co. TX.
trying to find any siblings or parents to Wiley Rodgers.
He has been very elusive man. Help needed.

Very interesting. I believe when I was doing research (and I have the papers somewhere in the file. ) I found a William living not far from my Wiley Rodgers. At first I thought there might be some connection. But never could find any as I did not have Wiley siblings and Parents and still do not. Still looking . I know Wiley was still in Giles Co. TN in 1888 as he married a Mary Bell there and it was about 1890 they went to TX and ended up in Blue Ridge Collin Co. TX. not far from Mckinney

I have a William H. Rogers who married Sarah Ann Blanton (date unknown). William was the son of Chesley Charles Rogers and Catherine Estes. He first married Amanda C. Perkypile in Hamblen or Grainger County, TN. After her death married Sarah Ann Blanton. William and Sarah had four children born in Hamblen County, then sometime between 1880 and 1900 went to Texas. Their son Clinton was born in Arkansas in 1888, and their daughter Ida was born in Texas in 1890. William and Sarah are buried in the Pecan Grove Ceemtery in McKinney, Colin County, Texas

There are Rodgers/Rogers in early Maury Co., TN records. Giles Co. was formed from Maury in 1809. I am researching family of Samuel W. Craig (1800-1840) who married Susan Rogers. Looks like her father/or brother was William A. Rogers. These folks were in Maury Co. - later Craig relatives were in Giles, and I suspect the Giles/Lincoln Co. Rogers bunch might relate. Have you come across any Craigs?

Really don't know anything about Lydia. In the Lincoln Co. marriages, it shows Colman Roggers (Coleman Rodgers, Rogers)married Lydia Polly Sept. 6, 1859 (no return given). I don't know if this might mean they didn't get married or if they married elsewhere. I think Lydia Polly was my gggrandfather's mother. Not sure. The 1850 census shows Rebecca 81 head of household, Lydia 33 and Jefferson 10. It showed a Mr. Polly as being his father from Ky. but he was not in the household. I also thought that Jefferson might have had a brother named Aaron. In the 1850 census, Aaron Polley is living in the next household with a family of Merrell's. In the 1860 census, Aaron was head of household with Rebecca living with him. He had also married within the year to Catherine ?, from Al. Also said they probably married in Al. I have received info that Aaron married Catherine Rodgers from Al. I thought she might have been related to Coleman Rodgers who had married Lydia Polly. I don't know if the C. Rodgers I sent you was Coleman or not. That is what was sent to me and except for the wife's name it seemed to fit. Aaron and family had moved to Giles Co. by the 1870 census. In fact, he was in Giles Co. during the Civil War as he was living there when he enlisted. I thought maybe the C. Rodgers and family may have moved also but that is pure speculation.

I will continue to search for Polly's and Rodgers. If I run into anything that may help you, I'll send it on.

Thank you,

Rosemary

This is very interesting. First. are you positive about C. Rodgers name of Coleman. Reason being My Wiley who was born abt 1850 named his second son Nathan Columbus Rodgers. Have been trying to figure out who he named his son after.? Could C Rodgers have been Columbus Rodgers.?
Also there was a huge tie with Watkins and Rodgers. We found a Nancy A Rodgers who married a Robert Watkins in 1872 in Giles Co TN and we suspected she may have been Wileys sister but could find no proof and this is the closet thing I have seen. Also the family found a picture a very old picture apparently a treasure of Wileys as he had handed it down to one of his sons James , and on the back it has writtin Tad Rodgers , no one seems to know who he was. But we suspect it might have been a brother or even perhaps his father but the only conclusion we came to it was a nick name for Thomas. perhaps. But can find no connection unless Thomas had a middle name of Robert or maybe a middle name of Thomas. Who knows.
Wiley married an Eliza Watkins in Sept 7 1873 in Giles Co.
I think we need to look at this very closely.
Do you have any other information.?? That might give me some clues. Where you Lydia lived and went or died. any information about C Rodgers. What happened to him did he die or anything. was he in the Civil War and died ???
Let me know
Norm

Norman-

I wrote to you previously concerning the name Rodgers. You may not have received it or else it was not your family. My ggggrandmother, Lydia Polly, married a Coleman Rodgers (sp.)in Lincoln Co. in 1859. In the 1860 census, I find a C. Rodgers who married within the year to Elisa ?. I don't know if this could have been Lydia but in any case, there were 9 children when they married. All children were born in AL. Listed are Mary 16, Lucrecia 14, Sarah 13, Mallen 12, Jonas 11, Wiley 9, Nancy 6, Melvina 5 and Robert 3. If this is the family or a relative, they may have moved to Giles Co. since it adjoins Lincoln Co.

Thanks, Rosemary

I am trying to do research on the Chesley Rogers line. I do not have any information concerning Chesley besides what you had posted. His son William who married Amanda Perkypile was the father of Andrew who is our direct link.

can you offer any other information. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks so much
