Does anyone have information on the slaves of Mullican Nored of Alabama and other Nored families of Alabama. All the records of the 1800s show that Mullican was the only Nored head of household in the Conecuh County area of Alabama. There are many african american Nored/Nared descendants, and all of us came from Conecuh County, Alabama. There were lots of Nored offspring in the 1870 Census and in the 1866 Colored Census on Conecuh County Alabama. These were the only known black Noreds. We have many branches, but we have traced our lineage back to Alabama. All of the original african american Noreds were very light skinned people (near white) They were listed as Mulattos in the Census.

I am asking for any leads, any information can help. I know a lot of people don't like to talk about slaves and slavery or the possibilty that their ancestors owned slaves, but it happened and it's a part of history that we can not change. But I need the help of the Mullican Nored descendants. Any and all informatioin can help. Did he have land? How much? What happened to his land in Alabama? Why did his descendants spread through Tennessee and Texas? Did he have house servants or field servants? Does any tax assessment infromation reveal any identities of servants (slaves). PLEASE, any information can help.

Thanks in advance for your time and your help.

Sincerely,

Dante Eubanks

My grandfather was a Nared from Evergreen, AL who settled in Ohio, along with other Nareds, Ewings and Lanes. I am afraid I have not been able to find any information on our family during slavery. Feel free to email me so that I can share the information I have.

P.S. Will you be attending the Evergreen Family Reunion in Las Vegas this August?

Greetings Margaret,

I am so glad that another family member is looking up the roots of the Union/Ewing, Lane, Howard, Likely, Nared, Drakeford, and other families from Conecuh. I have been searching and searching. Most of my infomation is family tree related, but I can tell you that the Ewing and Union families are one in the same. They are the descendants of London Boykin Ewing and Narcy Irvin Ewing of the Old Town area of Conecuh County. Some how the record keeper took E-W-I-N-G for U-N-I-O-N and I-R-V-I-N.

London Boykin Ewing was a slave child from Kershaw County, South Carolina in a communtity known to many as the Boykin Communtity. London and his family were the slaves of Mr. Burwell Boykin of Kershaw County, SC. They were willed to Burwell's shildren after he died and later the came to Evergreen by way of Elizabeth Boykin Hunter and Starke Hunter. The Hunter, Boykin, Horton, and Irvin/Ervan families were some of the original settlers of Conecuh County, Butler, Covington, Escambia, Monroe, and Dalls Counties as well. I would love to exchange information with you. I did a family tree which is 447 pages which comprises the Ewing/Union, Nared, Likely, Ammons, Samuel, Williams, Davis, Jones, and other allied families such as the Ausby, Brown, Autrey, Culliver, Kent, Oliver, Franklin, Howard, Lane, and Drakeford families of Conecuh County. The cost of the book is $30.00 (includes shipping). By no means is this for profit. The price reimburses the expense I incured when i had them printed and bound. I still have some books left if your interested.

The Drakeford family are descendants of Daniel Drakeford and Caroline Ewing Drakeford. Mnay of the Drakeford kinfolks married Nareds, Ewings, Meeks, Straughns, Smiths, Rankins, Andrews, Samuels, and so on and so on. Please contact me either through this forum or at my home email which is Reverenddme368@cs.com.

I have been in touch with Cousin Clinton Nared in New York, Willie Jean Johnson in Tennessee, Lillie Ruth Jordan in Mansfield, Frank "Bett" Likely in Omaha, Anna Bates in Las Vegas, and many other cousins across the nation. This family is huge!!!!!!!

Lets get together and I am sure we can be a blessing to one another!! Take care and God Bless!!

I look forward to meeting speaking with you soon!

I've begun researching my family's history from Conecuh County. I am a descendant of the Autrey, Samuel, and Likely is what I've been able to gather so far. I just came across your information on Rootsweb. If you still have available the information you have complied, I would be very much interested. Thanks

Hello cousin,
The names do ring a bell. I am a descendent of Joseph and Katie Likely. These were my great great grandparents. I am very new at researching my roots and I must say this has been an enlightening and reward venture. Thanks for sharing the maiden name of Katie Likely (Ewing). God bless.
