I am looking for family links to China. My g,g,g,grandfather left Amoy in 1852 for Australia on the Eleanor Lancaster. He was endentured to the Australian Agricultural Society for 5 years. He is listed on shipping documents as Dan Choonan and Dan Swan, but was known in Australia as Thomas Danswan. His mothers name on his marriage certificate was Sun Lea and his fathers only as Pot. He eventually married an Irish girl, settled in Murrurundi and had a large family.

Hi James, Alvis was the brother of my great grandfather Thomas (known to family as Fuff). I have family trees given to me by Alice Danswan. Legend has it that the first Thomas Danswan (the Chinese one) swapped a block of land to get a wife. You can email me at sonja.c@bigpond.com
I have some photos and family trees I can email you.

I was so excited to hear your story as I have been researching now on and off for a year. My great grandfather is none other than Thomas Danswan from Amoy China, who I have as marrying Sarah Gimbert in Murrurundi in 1864, they had 10 children, Thomas, Elizabeth, Maryann, Matilda and Isabella (twins), Emma, Maria, Cornelius, Perceres, Leonard. Sarah was English from Cambridgeshire. She passed over in 1934. I took a trip up there last weekend and found his gravestone along with his 8 month old son Leonard. My grandfather was Cornelius King Danswan and my dad was Ronald Desmond Danswan who passed away in 2003. I have Thomas as registered also as Tai Soon and was naturalized in Aust in 1876. His DOB was 1815 in Amoy and died in Murrurundi 1882....Christine Whitton nee Danswan

Hello Sonja,

My interest is Eileen Platton who marries Harold C Danswan.
I have emailed Alice Danswan for information without success, so I may have the wrong email. I would be grateful if you could let me have her email address and I can try again. I have information on Eileen Platton if anyone is interested.
