I am a desc. of Elizabeth Rudd, Knight who married Aaron Burton. Elizabeth was the daughter of Capt. John Rudd (Rev. War). Ephraim Knight b. ca 1782 was the first husband of Elizabeth b.21 Feb., 1784 Va. . They had two daughters, Emiline b. 1799 and Charlotte b. 1807. Ephraim died in 1808. Emiline married James R. Wilson, M.D. then H.J. Weston and Charlotte married James L. Moseley Gilder, M.D. whose father was Capt. Phillip Gilder. After the death of Ephraim Knight (lived in S.C. and moved to N.C. w. his family) Elizabeth Rudd Knight married Aaron Burton. I have an old letter dated 1925 with much of the family information and also includes the surname Boozer. I will be glad to share my information. Jann_47@msn.com

According to two sources, Emaline P. Knight was born 08 Aug 1805 in Newberry District, SC. Those sources are (1) "Clark County, AR Obituaries and Death Notices, 1869-1900, Published in Southern Standard", compiled by Allen Syler, CCHA, 2003, and (2) "The Gems", Pike County Archives and Hostor Society, Summer 2001, Article collected by David Kelley.

I am new to this family. It is my husband's. A distant cousin of his has sent me a lot of information that matches what I have found so far. I would put Ephraim Knight's date of birth to be abt 1774. On the 1790 census, there were only 2 males in the entire household of Ephraim Knight over the age of 16. Ephraim Knight, head of house, and a son. There were not any males under 16. There were 4 females recorded on the census. This is why I place Ephraim Knight's date of birth, who married Elizabeth Rudd, to be 1774.

I do have a couple of questions. Emmeline Knight married James R. Wilson who died abt 1830 leaving her with 4 small children who were raised by James Wilson's brother. Is there evidence of this? One of Emmeline's daughters, Martha E. Wilson, is recorded to have 2 children on the 1860 census... Belton F. Wilson and Mary Frances Wilson. Belton F. Wilson was b. abt 1843 and not present with Martha E. Wilson on the 1850 Newberry Dist, S. Carolina census while Martha was still living with her mother and her mother's 3rd husband. Mary Frances Wilson was born in 1856 in Mississippi. My guess is Pontotoc County. H.J. Wesson's father died there according to the 1860 Pontotoc County Mortality Schedule. Did Martha E Wilson give birth out of wedlock and is the an aunt to Belton F. Wilson? THe only evidence of marriage I have on her is the will of Nathaniel Gray SR. He married Marhta E. Wilson between 1860 and 1870. He died bef 1870. He names Martha as his wife.

Any further information would be greatly appreciated!!

My husband is a descendant of Martha E. Wilson. Martha had a daughter by the name of Mary Frances Wilson born 16 Dec 1856 in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. Mary Frances Wilson married John Hendry Berry, son of Wiley A. Berry and Lavenia Hendry, 21 Aug 1880 Pike County, Arkansas. The newly weds moved to Scott County, Arkansas. There they had 3 daughters.

1. Lula M. Berry b. 13 Sep 1882 Scott County, AR d.1 Sep 1970 Clarkston,, Michigan, married Emra Ezzell Morton 14 Oct 1914 St. Charles, St. Charles, Missouri.

2. Roxanna Berry b. 11 Mar 1885 Scott County, AR d. Aug 1965/1966 Clayton, St. Louis, Missouri, married Harold Dennis VanBuskirk sometime before 1905 in Cedar County, Missouri. The VanBuskirks married Paynes, who married Maynards, who married Smiths. My husband is a Smith. I am not.

3. Francine Berry b. 11 Mar 1885 Scott County, AR. Francine was a twin and was either a still born or died sometime after birth.

Mary Frances Wilson died a month after giving birth to the twins. Her husband, John Hendry Berry, died 2 months after the birth of Roxanna Berry. He possibly shot himself so family legend says.

Most of my information comes from the desecendants of Lula M.Berry. They have quite a bit of information on this family... good sources of records that have been kept.

Lula Berry and Roxanna Berry lived with their aunt Mary( John H. Berry's sister) and their step uncle, Joseph Lacky. Mary Berry married first Nathaniel Gray Jr.

Martha E. Wilson, according to Judy Falcon, was promised to a young man. He found out she was raped in a wood shed and was pregnant. He left and never returned. Martha E. Wilson married Nathaniel Gray Sr abt 1861. She is named in his will of 1869. On the 1870 census, her daughter, Mary Frances, has the last name of Gray. By 1880, it was Wilson again.

I found Martha E. Wilson on the 1850 Newberry Dist, South Carolina Census still living with her mother Emmeline Wesson. I'll need time to find my data that has been emailed to me. So, based on the information I found on Emmeline Wesson, her 3 marriages, I was able to find where the Wilson name came from. So, My Martha E. Wilson was born abt 1824 in Newberry Dist, South Carolina, was the daughter of James R. Wilson and Emmaline Knight, daughter of Ephraim Knight and Elizabeth Rudd. So, the information I have quickly fell into place with the Wilson/Knight/Rudd families.

Also, on the 1860 Pontotoc County, Mississippi Mortality schedule, there are Wessons who died. I'd have to go back and check it, but, I think H.J. Wesson's father died in Pontotoc County, MS along with a couple of H.J. Wesson's daughters, possibly nieces.
