Hello,

I'm looking for anyone who has Chipchase ancestry in Stockton. Associated surnames are Raper and Longhorn. This is in the 18th early 19th centuries.

Regards,

Val

Hi Val,

I have Chipchase ancestors from the Stockton & Yarm areas. My ancestor James would have been born around 1840, the son of John, but I haven't been able to find any record of his birth as yet. James married Sarah Jane Carter in 1860 and they had three children: Ann Elizabeth, James & William.

Do any of these names seem familiar to you.

Michelle

Hallo Valerie

I am also researching the Chipchase family of Stockton-on-Tees, England. It seems complicated because they were Quakers. My particular interest is with Martha Chipchase who married William Green in Stockton 1734. She had a twin sister Mary. I also have some information about John Chipchase, schoolmaster in Stockton, died 1821.

Hi

The Stockton Chipchase family were Quakers so births and deaths will have to be found in the Monthly Meeting records of the Society of Friends. Have still to look at these myself. My connection is with William Green who married Martha Chipchase in 1734, bu I have some information on later generations, though not the particular John Chipchase you mention.

I have a Mary Chipchase who married James Mellenby in 1789 in Elton, near Thornaby on Tees. She may be the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Chipchase of South Shields, County Durham, but only because I haven't found another alternative. Any connection?

I am sorry that this is so late in getting on to you. My Chipchase family is from Sacramento in the period 1915 - present. However, I know that there was a Chester Garfield Chipchase family living in Stockton around this same period. One son was named Paul -- should be in mid-60's -- and was married to a woman named Anne who was in advertising in the 60s - 80s in New York. If you have information on Calvert Graham Chipchase, originally from Newcastle on Tyne, England, younger brother of John Graham and son of John Calvert Chipchase, please let me know.

Hi Marjorie
You mention the marriage of Martha Chipchase to William Green in 1734. I am currently researching the Chipchase family from Stockton and thought you may be interested to know that Martha was baptised in Stockton (adult baptism) on 13th March 1733.

If you would like any further info please contact me about the Chipchase family. Also, I would appreciate any information you have regarding any Quaker births etc.

Regards
Ros
