I am searching for any information relating to ANY of the
early/middle pioneer families ( ca. 1860-1920) of Radersburg and
the Crow Creek Valley, eastern Jefferson (present day Broadwater
County) County, Montana Territory to compliment a family/local
history that I am writing. Anything in the way of copies of early
documents, bibles, family histories, early maps or letters
recounting early day events or the people, and especially copies of
pictures of the area or the people who lived there. MOST ESPECIALLY
PICTURES OF RADERSBURG'S FOUNDER, RUBEN RADER OR HIS FAMILY.

The names I am most interested in are, Williams, Hargrove, Henson,
Jenkins, Sites, Rader, Hossfeld/Hossfeldt, Holdaway, McKay, Leary,
and Sherlock.

It would be so appreciated if anyone could share any insight,
pictures, stories, or histories no matter how small they may seem.
Anything that would offer or make more complete our insight into
their lives and times. Often times it is only a few sentences that
survive that may prove to be very interesting and important.

I am also interested in communicating with any of the descendants
of these or any other of the early day families that settled the
area.

Thank you for your time and interest.

I have some information about Radersburg that you might be interested in. I don't believe that our line of Raders are the same as yours but in collecting info about our MT Raders I have come across some things you might want to know about.

I have been doing research on my grandmothers Williams line. Her uncle, William Ulysses WIlliams, born in Canada, settled in Broadwater Co. and farmed their many years. I would like to get all his family (children and wife). He had two step children (I think).

From the book--Names on the Faces of Montana by Roberta Carkeek Cheney.
Radersburg, in Broadwater County, was named for Ruben Rader, a large land owner who donated land for the townsite, according to students at Willow Creek High School. Radersburg, an old mining town, sprang up in 1866 when John Keating opened the Keating Mine; the town boomed the following year when the East Pacific claim was discovered north of town. The post office was established in 1868. Radersburg was the birthplace of movie actress Myrna Loy, whose real name was Myrna Williams.

I noticed some common surnames in the Radersburg census of 1870 and some names appearing in Oregon census early on, including Rader surnames. I wonder what you have and if this area in Montana is tied to Willamette Valley area near Brownsville Oregon? There are some early land owning pioneers in Oregon surnamed Rader in Oregon, who appear to be connected to Indiana. As for Montana, Radersburg in 1870 clearly appears to be a gold mining town judging by the number of men, the number working quartz mines, etc. What can you tell me?

One of the "stories" handed down in my family is that we're related to Myrna Williams (Loy). I have been trying to find any information that would help prove, or disprove this tale.

I have identified a (very distant) relative named Hester Isabella Sherlock who married Errendle Franklin Nave. They lived in Radersburg in the 1900s.

My question is, does anyone know if the Sherlock and Williams families connect?

Dan Williams;

Have you written your book? If so, how may I obtain a copy?

If not, are you still doing research? Either way, I would like to visit with you. My family was the BOMAR clan that lived in and ranched west of Radersburg on the mountain. I have a lot of information to share, and some questions about the area.

Anyone know of any historically accurate books about the Radersburg area?

Thanks,
Echo Renner

Echo,

Have you seen the book "Broadwater Bygones?" It has a Radersburg section. No ISBN, published 1977 by Broadwater County Historical Society. Probably still available from the B.C. Historical Museum, Townsend, MT.
