I don't know if you ever got your information, so here is a bit of what I found. It came from a book titled "History of Black Hawk County and Its People" (1915). There is a biography on John H. Hogan and a biography on James Gibbons also. The following is a small clip from the biography on John H. Hogan. **I just added a second piece from the biography.

Does anyone have any information on Omar Gibbons (b. 14 Nov 1879 and d. 20 Mar 1943) son of James Gibbons and Anna Wade who married Agnes Duffy from Black Hawk County Iowa
November 16th, 1898?

I checked for Omar Gibbons today but didn't find much. I found the obit for Agnes which said her husband died in 1942 but no month or day was given. Are you certain of the date you gave of 20 March 1943 being correct? Not sure if the obit is very accurate, as it said she was married to Omar in 1902. I found their marriage in the Waterloo newspaper on 17 November 1898. Agnes was buried in Calvary Cemetery but the Calvary Cemetery book I looked at didn't list Omar. I'll check with the cemetery manager tomorrow.
Could he have died outside of Black Hawk County? I checked the death records at the courthouse for 20 March 1943 and he was not listed and not around that date in 1942 either.

Also, I found a newspaper clipping from the Waterloo newspaper on 21 March 1943, that Lyle Patrick Gibbons had returned to his army post in Poirtland, OR after visiting his mother, Mrs. Agnes Gibbons, on a 14 day furlough. No mention of Omar or a funeral for Omar either. I could not find an obit for Omar on or around 20 March 1943 in the Waterloo newspaper.

Maybe the Calvary Cemetery will have a record of burial for Omar!

I checked the death records book at the Black Hawk County courthouse and did not find his name mentioned on or around that date. Perhaps he died elsewhere and was brought back for burial.
