My mother`s grand parents were William Simpson Mary Eleanor Simpson. They lived in Iowa. I have been trying to find out what Mary E.`s lst name was. Also anything else about the family. My mother, age 96 has remembered the names of her mother, Rebecca`s, siblings. I would be interested in sharing any information to see if we are talking about the same family.
I show that William Simpson was born in N. Ireland in 1824 and died in 1904 and Mary E. born 1841 died 1905. Later yrs they lived in Iowa and died there. B. gurth

Hi again James, I just messaged you on GenForum but just saw you messages here. Please send me a list of the Simpsons you have. I forgot to tell you in the other message that most of the family also believe that the W. in J.W. (W.J.)stood for William. I feel like there is a real possibilite of a connection here.
Thanks,

Hi M. Bennett, I am sorry, I got my people mixed up. Had just sent a message to a James Simpson. But, I just ran across you posting and I am hoping you can help me. My GGrandfather's name was either W.J.Simpson, or J.W.Simpson. Everone is in agreement that he was called "Jim", so I assume the J. stands for James. And most of us think that the W. stood for William. But it all depends on who you talk to as to which initial came first. He married a Mary ? and 3 of their children were: Emma Elizabeth Hodges nee Simpson b.1893(my Grandmother), Minnie Lee Dowdy nee Simpson b.1879, and Charlie (maybe Charles)b. abt. 1882. I know there were other children but don't have their names. Please get back to me, I hope there is a connection here. Oh, the family lived in Tenn., Ark., Lousianna.

Thanks,
Linda

Hi again! No, I don't know anything else on my James. I wish I did, I have hit a solid wall on my Grandmothers family. Oh, I do know that he was at one time he was a bricklayer. That would have been in the early nineteen hundreds because he supposedly taught my Grandfather to lay brick. That would have been sometime after 1908, when Emma Elizabeth Simpson married Ora Dodd Hodges.

Hi, I think we maybe related. My great grandmother was Ida Simpson. Her mother was Lottie Day. She married George W. Henry. I have her bd as 12/1891 but I only know of one sister - Rose, but I know there are more. One of Ida's daughter just passed away and I was given old box filled with pictures and notes. One of the notes had address of the Simpson family. Did Vaughn ever live on Vista Rd in Louisville? Please let me know if it is the same line.

Hi Judy,

A couple of questions. Was Rose Whitson Rutherford your grandmother? or was that ida's sister Rose's name? I was always told Ida's (we called her Granny), sisters was named Rose McHaffey or something similar. When did she pass away?
What is your grandmothers parents name? Also, do you know who Babe Simpson's parents were? I found an old picture of him.

I live near Maryville - near the airport.

Hey,
My grandmother was Rose Whitson, the namesake of
Rose Simpson. Rose Simpson was the sister of Ida.

I will have to look up Babe Simpson, seems that was a
nickname for some body.

Vaughn S. (there were two Vaughn's) married Alice Wood
Sept 17, 1901
the children were :
William ( not mine),Green, Helen, Homer, Pearl, Hattie,
Irene B., Roy, Fred Samuel, Deadrick, and Vaughn Jr. born 1915
Roy Simpson is living in Powell and he married an cousin
and did not know it. They are very embarressed about it.
Even to day and they were married a longgggg time a
go.
That would be easy to do . I walked home and when to school with cousins and did not know who they were until I did
my genealogy. Family never talked about kinfolks .

Babe Simpson was a member of the Bunch gang - led by Clarence Bunch. They robbed banks and killed a few people. Babe was a nickname but nobody on myside knows his real name. His father was Jess. He married a girl from Virginia and may have lived there. My grandmother thinks he might have died after Ida, sometimes in the 70's.

Did some of the family live in Petros or Wartburg area? My mother remembers traveling to somewhere in Morgan County to visit some of Ida's people.

My husband post a picture of Babe Simpson on his website www.lesjones.com. I think he was about 20 or so. My grandmother and mother both remember him and said he was charming and they always loved to see him. I had an incorrect entry when I mentioned George. He was Ida's husband - and William was her father. It was my mistake. I did not know Ida's parents name until I found her death certificate.

Rose lived with my Aunt Margaret on Woodlawn Pike after her husband died until she pasted away. Aunt Marg did not have any children. My mother and two of her nephews looked after her until her death last year. We got a box of her pictures but we do not know who half of them are. I will try and scan in some to send to you.

Wow. We did not know that Walt Simpson past away last year. After my grandfather - Tom Henry past away in 1991, we lost touch with most of his side of the family with the exception of his sister Margaret. She had to go into a nursing home and past away a couple of years later. Her memory was good for the last 10 or 20 years, but not for anything later. I tried to ask her about family but she either did not want to tell things or she could not remember.

My mother remembers Walt telling the story of Babe robbing a bank with the Bunch gang, and they hid the money on the banks of the tennessee river. When the went back to retreive it, they forgot where it was. Walt said there was a lot of money buried some where on the bank.

We are related. Ida's four children were Margaret, Harmon, Mary, Tom. They have all past away. Harmon's wife Rose is still living and Mary's husband Bill is still living. Both of them are in poor health.

Hi Judy,

Sorry, so far nobody knows them. My mother and her parents lived in a brick apartment building on Magnolia - maybe sometime in the 50's??? I was told Charlie Simpson lived in Burlington - near Magnolia.

According to an earlier email from Trina Simpson Wolf, Lottie Day was born 11-08-1866. Is this correct? She goes on to list the children: Vaughn 5-1880, Harriette 12-13-1867, Alice Ciney 11-12-1869, Sarah jane 06-1873, Jesse 12-1875, Rosa 08-1885, Charles 05-1888, Ida 12-1890

If this is correct, was Lottie a step mother to some of the children? She would have been 1 year old when Harriette was born and 3 when your gr-grandmother was born.

Please let me know about theses dates. I will paste in the message at the bottom from Trina.

These are buried behind the Stanley Greenhouses on near Moody Ave. The Stanley family is owner of the Davenport

and will not copy it because it is so fragile.
They are nice people.
