I have discovered m.grandfather, Henry Carron (of Montana) father was (Jerry) J Baptiste Carron (Caron) (b Dec 1861 in Quebec). In the 1881 Canadian census his locations is: Ste-Angèle, Rimouski, Quebec, Canada. Jerry (J Baptiste) married Ida Mailhiot (b Aug 1974, also Quebec), the wedding was perhaps in 1896. J Baptiste Caron (Carron)'s father was Octave Caron (b 1831, also perhaps from Ste-Angèle, Rimouski, Quebec, Canada ) and Adelaide Caron (b 1832, Quebec). The Jerry and Ida lived in Silver Bow and Deer Lodge counties, Montana. Any information would be appreciated.

It helps if you're specific about what you're looking for.

(Jerry) J Baptiste Carron (Caron) (b Dec 1861 in Quebec) married Ida Mailhiot (b Aug 1974, also Quebec), correct? You think they married in about 1896, correct? in Montana, correct? You don't have the marriage record, correct?

How are you arriving at who the parents are without the marriage record?

In other words, what document do you have that names his parents?

I have doubts about the diminutive "Jerry" being derived from Jean Baptiste. This is from vast research experience. Perhaps Jeremie or Jerome, those would be more likely.

There are several other Caron in the same locale in 1900 who arrived in the same time period, they may be related. I would investigate those.

The most important document you need to solidly track a French Canadian line is a marriage record that names the parents. I would be checking for Catholic parishes/missions in Silver Bow in the time period the marriage took place. I would also be looking for baptismal records for the children, particularly the eldest.

Octave Caron and Adelaide Perreault [the couple from the 1881 Census] did have a son, J-B. He married twice but not to Ida. You have the wrong parents for Jerry:

The parents were Thomas Caron and Marie Bois.

He was born 19 Nov, baped 20 Nov 1862 with the given name Jeremie, in Ste-Flavie, Matane, Quebec.

Other siblings baptisms, as well as his parents marriage (1860) can be found in the same parish.

The family is found in the Canadian 1871 Census here: http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1871canada&...

Wow! Thank you both so very much! I am new at this and have tried to piece together verbal history, some photos and letters. My grandfather died from a brain tumor when I was very young, the few memories of him I cherish and I am now trying to keep memories and history alive for my sons.

I have a question about the Mailhiot name. Do you know the english conversion? for example below....

I have a Helene Mailhot/Mailleaux/Mahion/Malliot depending on the priest writing it down. I am trying to find her prior to marriage. b 1830 NY.So I need the maiden name.
I know everyone else's name in English.
Her husband is Joseph Stone (catholic church records call him Laroche)
Part of that group is Huette = Dulude or Huet Dulude.
They all lived in Essex,New York.
Thank you,
Karen

Researching French Canadians in NY in the period, abt 1820-1850 is a challenge. You might find records in Quebec, they were known to travel for the sacraments and some missionaries dispensed to perform rites did record them in their home parish. There are records that simply don't exist.

You might find this of interest: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~vermont/FrenchCanadianMigr...

A woman, unless head of her own household, wouldn't have been enumerated by name prior to 1850.

Here's a handy link, this is to the page that has known variants and Anglicizations of Mailhiot. http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~afgs/M1dit-etc.html

Looking for any information about children of Robert Blair and Adeline Chouinard. My grandfather was Joseph Albert his siblings were Marie Jeanne Elisa, Marie Anne Marianne, Marie Caroline Alice Carry, Joseph David, and Euchre. There may have been others, Adeline states in a 1910 Census in New Hampshire that 12 children were born, but 6 living in 1910. Any information would be great.http://www.karter4.com
