Seeking Blackwelder Descendants

I am trying to tie together all of the Blackwelder families in the USA. See my Blackwelder web site at http://www.geocities.com/~arslanm/blackwelder/blackwelder.ht... . If you are wondering how you are related to the other Blackwelders in your area, send me a note and we'll try to figure it out.

My g-grandmother, Etta Jenetta Blackwelder, was an orphan, daughter of Peter Alexander Blackwelder and Catherine Ridenour of Cabarrus Co., NC., who was brought by relatives to Montgomery Co. as a small child. About 1874 she left IL with an uncle and went to Sumner Co, KS, where she married John Pierce Whitaker. The family stayed in KS. I was raised in Wichita, KS, but currently live in TX.

Hi, Carol. It's good to hear from you again. Etta (Blackwelder) Whitaker is #5475 in my Blackwelder database (see my Blackwelder web site). If you'd like for me to add her branch to the database, please send me a file of her descendants. I'd like to get the database more complete on the female branches. Thanks.

My husband's line comes from a Mary "Polly" Blackwelder who was born about 1820 in NC. She married Moses Sides in Cabarrus Co., NC in 1836. I have not been able to determine who her parents were. Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

I'm not sure where she fits in. I see that their marriage bond was posted by Daniel Karker (Karraker). There was a Daniel Karraker who was the husband of Rachel Blackwelder (#543 in my Blackwelder database at http://arslanmb.org/blackwelder/blackwelder.html), although this Daniel Karracker (born in 1793) had settled in Union County, Illinois by the early 1820s. Perhaps Rachel was an aunt of Mary. Have you found Mary Blackwelder and Moses Sides in the 1850 census or later? If you can provide me with the census citations, perhaps I can find a clue to link her to the Cabarrus County Blackwelder family.

In 1850 she is in Iredell Co. NC with her husband Moses M. and here she uses the name "Polly". In 1860 they are in Montgomery Co., IL where she is Mary. In tracing her husband Moses M. Sides, he may be the son of Christopher Sides Sr. who was in the 1840 census in Montgomery Co. which changes to Stanly Co. in 1850.

To complicate the matter, there seems to be two Mary "Polly" Blackwelders. This Mary married Samuel Thornburg in 1836 and is the daughter of Paul Blackwelder and Christina Ritchie. I'm sure this is not my Mary.

Thanks for your help.

I forgot to mention that there may be a Cabarrus Co. link through Alexander Sides brother Daniel. In 1840 Daniel is in Cabarrus Co. and Moses is in Montgomery Co. but in 1850 they are both in Iredell Co.

Re Daniel Karraker posting marriage bond for Mary "Polly" Blackwelder. Where does that information come from?

Rachel Blackwelder is listed on a "bastardy" List as mother of a child by Jacob Kline or Cline. There are also several documents showing payments to Rachel Blackwelder in 1813, 1814, & 1815 for child by Jacob Kline / Cline. Could this Mary "Polly" Blackwelder (There are seemingly 2 different Mary "Polly" Blackwelders) be that child? I can find no information re name/gender or life span of that child.

My husband's line is descended from Daniel and Rachel so I am trying to "flesh out" family information.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Cynthia Karraker

I tried to access your blackwelder site and it is no longer available. Is there any way to access it? My husband is connected through Daniel Karraker and Rachel Blackwelder
Thank you.
