Our family has a letter indicating that our Lindsay grandmother traveled with a Nelson family from Scotland (probably Ayrshire) in the 1890's. The travelers may have entered through Ontario, Canada, to NYC where the Nelsons worked in the textile industy. Our grandmother Lindsay traveled on to Hawaii. We understand she visited the Nelsons in NY in the 1920's.

I am trying to find about my own Lindsay ancestors. I am aware that we were connected to John Lindsay (twin) the Mayor of New York in the 1970's. He died a few years ago. His father George Nelson Lindsay was a banker. My research has led me to believe his grandfather was John J. Lindsay ? c1853 and Annie Jane ?. We need to find out more information on the John Lindsay the Mayor to fill this into my family tree.

My Lindsay Clan were all from Ayrshire.

Any information which would help me sort this out would be greatly appreciated as I have been trying to resolve this for several years now and don't know where to get the information I need.

I have a newspaper article from a relative which mentions in it how the Mayor of New York had visited his relatives in West Lothian Scotland. The relative (twin) was the person who gave me the article, her mother was Mary Lindsay(twin). My grandfather's grandmother another Mary Lindsay (twin of Robert) and my relative in West Lothian grandfather Hugh Lindsay (twin of Alexander) were brother and sister.

As you can see twins were very common in the Lindsy family.

I have read and read your message trying to find a connection with the Lindsays you mention. My father did say he thought we were related to John Lindsay, the major, but he did not say how. And I do not recognize any of the other names. Wish I did. The only Nelson I know of was a Margaret Nelson who worked in the garment district of NYC. I met her once when I was about 10......which would have been about 1947. I'll keep your message in case any of the names you mention come to light. Judy Lindsay

My great grandmother was Margaret Lindsay whose 4 brothers
emigrated to Canada and the USA from Northern Ireland. One of the brothers had a son who became Mayor Lindsay of New York (as told to me by my mother). My great grandmother later married a Lyle. Can anyone help with any info?
