My gg-grandmother was Maria de los Angeles (aka "Angela")Cifuentes, baptized 4 october 1841 in Panuco, Zacatecas and m. to Feliciano Reyes. She was the d/o of Jose Maria Sifuentes and Concepcion Flores, who had at least one other child: Sutimio Cifuentes, who m. Maria ___ Bernales and had a son, Jose de la Cruz Cifuentes, baptized 9 May 1861.
Jose Maria Sifuentes was the s/o Pedro Cifuentes and San Juana Palacios, who had at least one other son, Asencion Cifuentes, who m. Fomada Ruiz and had at least one son, Aniseto Cifuentes, baptized 21 march 1862, in Zacatecas.
I do not have dates and places of birth except for Maria/Angela and her cousins, so it is possible their parents came from Coahuila. Incidentally, my father, Carlos Cervantes, was b. 4 Nov 1913 in El Lucero, Coahuila.
Please let me know if any of these names form a connection.
Thank you!

Greetings George Sifuentes:

I am very familiar with the surnames Lara and Campos from San Buenaventura and Santa Gertrudis. I have researched both of these names in the area thru the late 1700s.

1. My father was Encarnacion Lara, born in Muzquiz, Coah., son of Jesus Lara (born in Santa Gertrudis) and Maria Concepcion Lopez Thomas. Jesus had several brothers, namely, Maria Dolores, Josefa, Lazaro, Eliseo, Nicolas, Gertrudis, Juan, and Martina.

2. Jesus Lara was the son of Encarnacion Lara, born in Santa Gertrudis, and Maria Feliciana Campos, born on 8 dec 1853, also in Santa Gertrudis.

3. Encarnacion Lara and his brother Juan Lara were the children of Jose Manuel de Lara, born about 1808 possibly in Monclova, and Maria Inez Castellano, born about 1810.

4. Jose Manuel, Jose Rafael born 27 feb 1803, Juan Jose born 2 jan 1805, and Maria Guadalupe born 12 nov 1801, were the children of Martin de Lara and Maria Antonia Nunez, born 14 sep 1771.

If you are a Lara from Santa Gertrudis or San Buenaventura there is a high possiblity that we are "primos". I have only outlined the Laras in my direct line but I have quite a bit of information on the other Laras from the area.

As you problably know, thaere are two branches of the Campos in the area. In the Santa Gertrudis branch the oldest Campos I have is Jose Santiago Campos, son of Jose Campos and Ana Maria Valdes, married to Maria Antonia Perez on 13 feb 1798, while in the San Buenaventura branch I have Santiago de la Rosa Campos, son of Jose de la Rosa Campos and Maria Marcelina Davalos, married to Maria Francisca Perez on 5 may 1795 in San Buenaventura. Both Maria Antonia and Maria Francisca were the children of Bartolo Perez and Maria Na~nez. I have extensive information on these two lines and have traced them to the 1900s.

Let me know if we are both climbing up the same tree.

Rolando Lara

One other piece of information that I will send your way, is that Apolonia Quintero shows the name of Quintero Falcon on at least one record I have found. Hope it helps.

It appears that we have some names in common, including Antonio Sifuentes:

Maria___ Quintero(baptized "Candelaria" on 2 Feb 1892 in Guadalupe, Zac.)is my paternal grandmother. She is the d/o
Pascual Quintero and Maria Felix Reyes. Pascual was baptized
23 August 1861 in Zacatecas, Zac.

Pascual's parents: Apolonio Quintero and Cresencia Silva
Apolonio's parents: Pedro Quintero and Refugio Caldera.

Cresencia's parents: Jose Maria Silva and Maria Francisca Loreto de Jesus Aguirre.
Cresencia had at least one sister, Juana Silva, who married Leandro Sifuentes who was the son of Antonio Sifuentes and Micaela Rios. Antonio and Micaela Sifuentes had a daughter,
Maria Antonia Sifuentes, baptized 26 May 1861, in Zacatecas,
Zacatecas(see LDS reel # 0245035).

So far, I have only found 2 children of Pedro Quintero (my ggg-grandfather (born 1800-1820)and Refugio Caldera. They are: Margarito Quintero, who m. ___ Ramos, and Apolonio Quintero, my gg-grandfather who I believe remarried after my gg-grandmother, Cresencia Silva died (before 1885) to ____ Delgado.

Is it possible that your ancestor, Apolonia Quintero, was a
sister or daughter to my Pedro Quintero?

Did your Antonio Sifuentes have a son named Leandro?

I'm looking forward to hearing whether any of these names appear to be linked to yours. Thank you for your reply.

LARA and CAMPOS

Greetings Primo George Sifuentes!

Well, it looks like we are primos indeed. This is how it appears that your Laras and Campos tie to mine (I am going to use the Spanish convention of using the father's surnmae first followed by the mother's-so that your Herminia Campos Lara becomes Herminia Lara Campos.

1. The date of birth that I have for Herminia Lara Campos is 18 november 1895. She was born in Santa Gertrudis and her birth was recorded in the San Buenaventura Civil Records on 26 april 1896. Her parents were Basilio Lara Campos, born on 17 april, 1870 in Santa Gertrudis, and Francisca Campos Sarabia, born on 13 dec, 1873.

2. Basilio Lara Campos' parents were Juan Lara Castellano,
birthdate unknown, who died in San Buenaventura on 29 may 1912, and Maria Ignacia Campos Falcon, who was born about 1844, possibly in San Buenaventura.

3. The parents of Juan Lara Castellano were Jose Manuel Lara Nunez, born about 1808, and Maria Ines Castellano Carranza, born about 1810. They were married on 16 august 1831 in San Buenaventura.

4. The parents of Jose Manuel Lara Nunez were Martin de Lara (parents names unknown) and Maria Antonia Nunez de Luna, who was born on 14 september 1771 in Monclova Coahuila. The parents of Maria Antonia Nunez de Luna were Pedro Antonio Nunez Estrada, born on 11 jun 1740 in Monclova, and Maria Isabel de Luna Vasquez, born on 23 february 1739 in Monclova and deceased on 21 march 1813 in Monclova. Her Parents were Juan Jose de Luna and Maria Josefa Vasquez, who were married on 31 july 1736 in Monclova.

5. The parents of Maria Ines Castellano Carranza were Miguel Castellano, born on 18 april 1789 and deceased on 15 december i849 in Monclova, and Maria Petra Carranza, born on 18 february 1791 and deceased on 15 july 1864. Her Parents were Juan Jose Nepomuceno Carranza, born 30 november 1760, and Maria Josefa del Fierro, born 29 april 1806 in San Buenaventura.

6. Our common ancestor is Jose Manuel Lara Nunez, who in addition to Juan Lara Castellano, which is your line, had another son, Encarnacion Lara Castellano, which is my line, as outlined in my last e-mail.

7. Now going back to number 1 above, Francisca Campos Sarabia was born on 13 december 1873 in Santa Gertrudis. Her parents were Jose Atanacio Campos Menchaca, born about 1834, and Maria Blasa Sarabia Martinez. Jose Atancio was the son of Eugenio Campos Perez born about 1802 and deceased in 2 june 1885 in Santa Gertrudis, and Maria Candelaria Menchaca who died on 2 october 1852 in San Buenaventura. Eugenio Campos Perez, in turn was, the son of Jose Santiago Campos Valdes, born about 1780 and Maria Antonia Perez-Nanez, born about 1778.

8. From 2 above, the parents of Maria Campos Falcon were Jose Anselmo Campos Perez, born 27 april 1808 in Santa Gertrudis, and Maria Antonia Falcon. They were married on 3 february 1829 in San Buenaventura. The parents of Jose Anselmo were Jose Santiago Campos Valdes and Maria Antonia Perez Nanez. As you can see in your line, both Francisca Campos Sarabia and Maria Ignacia Campos Falcon had common ancestors.

9. Well, it looks like we are really primos. As an aside, Juan Lara Castellano had another wife, Maria Josefa Guerrero. and thru her line I have found another cousin, her name is Mickey Garcia. I am going to give your name to her.

By the way, primo, where do you live? If you want to you can e-mail me directly at rlv43028@aol.com.

It is, indeed, a small world.

Best regards,
Rolando Lara

Thank you, George, for checking your names. It appears our
ancestors named Antonio Sifuentes are at least 50 years apart. I have seen the name "Apolonia Quintero" in my searches and will let you know if there is a match with your
Apolonia Quintero Falcon.

Thanks again,

Greetings Pablo Campos:

I am always suprised to find persons that have ancestors in Santa Gertrudis since it is such a small community. Like yourself, I also have ancestors in San Buenaventura and Monclova, and even Abasolo, which, as you know, was formerly called San Vicente Alto.

I have looked up what I have in my files that may be related to your line. In the area there are two Campos clans, one mostly in San Buenaventura and the other mostly in Santa Gertrudis, with some intermarriage between the two of course. My Campos are mostly from Santa Gertrudis.
Here is what I have that may be of interest to you:

Marcelino Campos was born on 4 september 1873 and died in 1911 in Santa Gertrudis. He was married to Gertrudis Correa.

Marcelino was the son of Sostenes Campos, born in Santa Gertrudis and 43 years old in 1887, and Maria Francisca Calderon.

Sostenes was the son of Jose Anselmo Campos, born 27 april 1808 probably in Santa Gertrudis but baptized in San Buenaventura, and Catarina Menchaca (Falcon?).

Jose Anselmo was the son of Jose Santiago Campos, born in Santa Gertrudis, and married to Maria Antonia Perez on 13 february 1798.

From the information in your e mail I cannot tell if this is your line or not.

Sostenes Campos was married twice and had a large family. His children were:

By his first wife Maria Francisca Calderon:

Maria Ester 1 august 1869
Pdro 9 april 1879
Zapopan 5 january 1871
Francisco 13 february 1869
Marcelino 4 september 1873
Eulogia 16 september 1875
Margarito 2 october 1878
Feliz 10 january 1881

By his second wife Maria del Refugio Sandoval:

Delfina 2 february 1890
Pascual 17 may 1895
Maria Antonia 22 april 1897
Basilio 14 june 1900
Nestor 17 july 1902

I hope you find this information useful. You say that a lot of people from that area came to San Antonio. Do you by chance know any LARA, CASTELLANOS, FIERRO, NUNEZ, CARRANZA, DE LUNA, or VARA?

Regards,
Rolando Lara
