Does anyone know if there is either a Orleans County library that has a research assistant or a genealogy society that will copy records and send them to you for a fee.
I am at a brick wall with my ancestors, VINCENT BUSH b. 1791 Can and FRANCIS GILBERT b. abt 1806 Can.
Vincent Bush and son Vincent Bush stayed in NY. I am hoping to obtain birth/obits/death rec. on any of Vincent or Francis children that were born in NY.
VINCENT BUSH is in the 1860 Census, Carlton, Orleans, NY
FRANCIS GILBERT is in the 1860 Census, Carlton Orleans,NY
Looking forward to a response.
Have a Great day, Madonna

Re: Need Help: BUSH/GILBERT ancestors
I checked the NYS Census and found that the family was not listed in 1855. You know they were here in 1860 & the NYS 1865 census has Vincent 32, a laborer, wife Cecilia 27, both born in Canada living in Carlton with their 4 children all born in Orleans Cty: Mary, 9, Mahala 8, Vincent 5 & Fred 2. They do not appear in any later census & are not buired here so must have left.

Re: Need Help: BUSH/GILBERT ancestors
On your Gilberts, they moved around a lot. According to the 1865 NYS Census Francis 53 a laborer & wife Mary 41 were born in Canada; their children Joseph 17 born in Erie County, Francis 15 & Anthony 12 were born in Monroe County; Edward 10 & Peter 8 were born in Michigan, Mary 5 Alfread 3 and Matilda 1 yr & 2 mos were born in Orleans Cty. They do not appear after in the census for this area.

Hello bl, Thank you very much for your speedy reply. All your help is very much appreciated.
I guess my next step is to try and acquire obit information and/or death record information on Vincent Bush II b. April 1831 Canada, died June 29, 1904, Hamlin, Monroe, NY., married Cecelia Lucille Miget.
Can you tell me if Hamlin and/or Monroe county has a library that has either a research assistant or someone from the local genealogy society that does lookups?
If I acquire the birth place of Vincent II in Canada then I have narrowed my search in Canada, that would help immensley. Then I would not only have a place to look for Vincent II in Canada but also for his father Vincent b. abt. 1791 Canada who knows it might even have his mothers name and place of birth. It would be nice to hit the jackpot of family puzzle pieces.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank You, Madonna

Dear bl,
Thank you very much, I really, really appreciate all your help.
Yes, my Gilbert ancestors did move around a lot originating in Canada, then to New York and then onto Michigan. According to census they went back and forth from New York to Michigan a few times but finally settling in Michigan.
I am stuck on Francis Gilbert b. abt 1806 in Canada and died 9/15/1883, Washington, Macomb, Michigan who married Mary Bush b. 1828 Canada. As you already know I am also stuck on Mary's father Vincent Bush b. abt. 1791 Canada.
Well, back to Francis I can't seem to get past Francis and siblings. I would like to be able to narrow my search down in Canada by knowing where Francis was born. I sent for his death certificate and the lack of information on it was disappointing to say the least. It only listed Canada as birth place and unknown Gilberts for parents. All in all none of the documents I have acquired so far give me a solid lead where to look in Canada.
Francis and three of his brothers were all born Canada: Joseph b. 1809 Can. and Peter b. 1824 Canada and John B b. abt 1827 Can, there is a possibility that they had a sister Catherine who married a Mr. Jock. The earliest I can find my Gilbert's is in 1850, Clarkson, Monroe, Ny Census it list Joseph Gilbert, living with him was his mother Rosette (name could be Betsey Caro-Fd. LDS) his brother Francis and his wife Mary (Bush) their children Elizabeth, Joseph and Francis. I really need to substantiate the parents of Francis.
I was hoping to find a lead via NY records or a family connection as where to look in Canada for more info on my Gilbert ancestors. The birth years of 1809 to 1824 is a big gap for Francis siblings Peter and Joseph so I feel there are more siblings and they possibly settled in NY. Maybe that is why they kept moving back and forth from NY to Michigan. As Francis, Joseph, Peter and possibly sister Catherine all settled in Michigan.
I have just about exhausted all my online sources, do you have any suggestion?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Happy New Years Eve, Madonna

There is a genealogy/local history room at the main library in Rochester, NY that has listings from cemeteries in Monroe County but I do not believe they are indexed and I do not know if they have a listingf from all the cemeteries. I haven't been there in a while. I might be able to swing by (it's about 40 minutes from here) some weekend. If you'd like to call them here's the info: http://www.rochester.lib.ny.us/central/I also just found that the Monroe cty Genealogical Society has a website but your Vincent is not indexed there . I see those interred at Lakeshore Cemtery, Hamlin, are not listed so they might be there. That is not too far from here: http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Enymonroe/cem/index.htm

Our burial records here have lots of info usually listing parents names and sometimes where people were born so I assume you've posted a request for burial records/cemetery listings from Michigan. They might even tell you which church your folks belonged to - - that's where I found the cities my German ancestors were born in. Since they didn't die in NYS I can't see there being much other info that would be helpful from this area. Do you know where or when Rosette died?

Hello Bonnie,
Thank you very much for responding to my Gilbert family query. You helped me take a step back, focas and take another look. I found info I previously missed. Rosette, son Peter and Joseph all say they were born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Super, that info narrows it down some more, Hurray!!
I wish I knew where and/or when Rosette (possibly Betsey Caro) died but unfortunately I don't.
Thanks again!!
Happy 2006, Madonna
