I am a descendent of Basil Jefferson and Elizabeth Duval through their son, Thomas E. Jefferson.

Thomas and his wife Mary Frances Foster, settled just over the Forsyth line in the Cross Roads District of Cherokee County -- near Hightower Baptist Church and the Etowah River. They moved sometime before 1860. The 1860 census lists Thomas as a school teacher and the personal value of his estate was $9,500.

He was a 1st Lt., Company E, 36th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee. He was reportedly killed sometime during the Battle of Vicksburg and is buried in an unmarked grave there. Mary Frances survived her husband by nearly forty years -- she passed away on October 21, 1901 and is thought to be buried at the Holbrook Campground Cemetery in Forsyth County.

Thomas and Mary Frances had three daughters, Mary Elizabeth, Margaret and Eliza Jane.

Mary Elizabeth married James Hiram Holbrook abt. 1862. I do not know all of their children, but believe they had at least ten. The three that I am certain of are Thomas (abt. 1864), Luella (abt. 1866) and Marcus (abt. 1869). I have been in contact one of Mary Elizabeth's descendents.

Margaret married Joseph Washington Williams about 1868 in Cherokee County. They had 12 children.
Eldora C. Williams (1868 - ?)
Oscar Alexander Williams (1870 - ?)
Mary Monterie Williams (1872 - 1961)

Novia Washington Williams (1885 - ?)
Henry Arthur Williams (1889 - ?)
John Gordon Williams (1893 – 1978)
Zee Williams (Abt. 1998 - ?)

Eliza Jane married Joseph S. Hester. (Joseph Hester and Joseph Williams were first cousins – Joseph Hester’s mother was Mary Williams Hester the sister of Zebulon Williams, the father of Joseph Williams. The Williams and Hester families moved from Pickens County, South Carolina to Cherokee County, Georgia in the 1850s.) Eliza Jane and Joseph had 12 children, as well.
Augusta Azalee Hester (1870 – 1947)

Augusta Azalee Hester was my great-grandmother. She married Hezekiah Kelly Fletcher. Please contact me if you would like to share additional information. (My email address is southernfam@aol.com)
