William Edward Joines born 1844 Banbury,Oxfordshire,Eng.
Married Sarah Bagnall Dec.1871 in Rochdale,Eng.
1st. born son,Thomas Bagnall Joines 1872
2nd. born son,Samuel H. Joines 1874.
William and Sarah came to the USA sometime between 1874-1880
as I have located them in the 1880 census, living in Colesville,NY. They later moved to Susquehanna,Pa.
Can anyone in the UK connect to this family or have info on what year they left Eng. I have searched the passengers lists that are available to me and have not been successful.
Thank you!

Did you ever get an answer to this? I have a forebear who was Thomas Joines and was from Banbury also. He seems to have a brother called William but his brother was apparently born in 1842 in Adderbury East and so your William may be no relation. However what I thought was interesting was that Thomas Joines came to New Zealand in around 1874 - 76 - about the same time as your ancestor. It may mean that if they were related there was family issue or a local problem that meant the young people left. Love to know if you were able to find out more

No,unfortunately,I have not had any responses. My william was born in Banbury Dec,1843. At least that is the info that I have found. I am not having any luck with anyone responding to this post. He may have had a brother by the name of Thomas,as he had a son by that name. I need to send for his birth certificate and I have not had the time to do so. That would help a great deal. I do not remember my mother ever mentioning her grandfather having relatives in New Zealand or England or here in the states except an Uncle that came over with them and he was born in Wales in 1817. They very well may have been related to your Thomas...just do not know. I keep searching, which I have done for 9 yrs. Perhaps one of these days it will all fall into place. Thank you!

In response to your Mar 2008 post re: William and Thomas Joines. My niece just sent me William's obit April,1913. In this obit William was survived by a sister,Sarah Lay England, brothers,Richard and George of England and a brother Thomas of New Zealand. William was 66 yrs. of age I cannot express my excitement when I saw this. I am in hopes that you are still reading the Joines message boards. BJ

I think my g g grandfather Thomas Joines is the father of your William Edward Joines. My g grandfather was Richard Joines(b. 1850 in Milton Oxf.), who I believe is William's brother. Richard married Susannah Hunt and one of their children was my grandmother Patience Ann Joines (b. Jun 26 1873 in Banbury Oxf.). Patience came to Canada in April of 1907 with her husband William Edwin Cox and their children. If you are interested in more information please reply
Thanks

I would love to have any info that you would have on this family. I have been desperately searching for 10 yrs. My William(in the 1880 census in the U.S.)was living in Colesville,NY(close to Binghamton)and it gives a birthdate of 1844. In this obit he would have been born in 1847. I know that it is my g.grandfather. He also had a son,Richard,my grandfather(whom I never knew). I have photos of this family.(curly hair, red beards, high foreheads and very handsome!) ha ha Do you have any information on who William married? His wife,my g.grandmother was Sarah Bagnall, born in Eng. also. I am leaning toward your Thomas,as I found a Thomas and Patience on family search last night in the 1881 UK census with a Elizabeth Jane Lay visisiting them(age 9)and I want to believe that this was Sarah Lay's(William's sister in the obit)daughter. THANK YOU!!!

I think we may be connected. Thomas Joines was born in Deddinton Oxfordshire about 1816. He married Patience Tew (b.Aug 10, 1817 in Barford St. Michael, Oxfordshire) on July 22, 1840 in Adderbury Oxfordshire. They had 9 children including a William born in 1842 or 43 in Adderbury East Oxfordshire, and my great grandfather Richard born about 1850 in Milton Oxfordshire. Richard married Susannah Hunt on July 17, 1870 in Banbury Oxf. They had 9 children one of which was my grandmother Patience Anne (b. June 26 1873 in Banbury). She married William Edwin Cox on May 16 1897 in London. They came to Canada in 1907. They had 7 children - 4 born in England and 3 in Canada. I do have a picture of Richard Joines.
I did see that there is a 1900 US census with William and Sarah and it states that they immigrated to the US in 1873 - I think this is your family. I am new to the message boards, so I am not sure as to what is the best way to get more information to you. I would love to see your pictures of the Joines, if we are related. I do not have much info on Thomas and Patience. I do think that the name of his father is Robert.

How fantastic to hear from you. yes I am still interested etc. There are very few Joines in NZ. Please do keep in contact. Since I posted the message my mother died and she was the only one of her siblings left in New Zealand. She remembered the Joines coming from Banbury Cross in Oxfordshire. I am still following through on this. If you feel there is a connection, please let me know.

lgilbert179...Great to hear back from you. So sorry to hear of your mothers passing. Can you give me the birth date of your Thomas and do you have the names of his siblings and his parents names? I would be interested in knowing any and all details that you have. You can e-mail them to me,if you would like. Being that in my ggrandfathers obit,he had a brother Thomas in NZ,I am in hopes that this would be your Thomas. Thnak you!
