My great, great grandfather Francis L. (Lafayette) Foster lived in Choctaw Co. He was born around 1848 and died October 13, 1904. He's buried at the Old Bogueloosa Valley Cemetery. I am interested in obtaining any information about his family. I have found him listed on the 1860 census with his mother, Elizabeth, and Ely W., Mary, and Ellender Foster. I assume his father died. By 1880, he was married with his own family. I would love to find out who his father was and the maiden name of his mother. I have been told that he was from Chatom which, I believe, was a part of Washington County. Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Jessica

I've found a family in Chambers Co Al in 1850 that may or may not be who you are looking for.

pages 335b &336a
Alexander S Foster 38 SC
Elizabeth A 25 (illegible)
William W 7 Al
Mary A 5 "
Hannah 3 "
Francis A 1 month "

Although Elizabeth A's place of birth can't be positively read, it is different from her husband's and son William W's. The enumerator consistently used ditto marks for the same place of birth. What I can see for Elizabeth's place of birth could read Lousiana.

If I have found the correct families in 1880 Choctaw Co Al...
In 1880 Francis shows his father born in SC and mother in La. Same for sister Mary after she marries James E Turbeville. Mother Elizabeth shows La in 1880 in the Turbeville household.

Hope this helps. I tried rootsweb and LDS for Alexander and nothing came up. No relation, just had a little time.

Hi! Thank you so much for your kindness! The Chambers Co. family isn't mine. This Francis wound up in Arkansas. The Choctaw Co. family is correct. I know where they were from 1860 forward, who their neighbors were, etc. I am trying to find Mary's death date. I am hoping that she died after 1908, so I can get her death certificate. Francis died in 1904. I have typed up everything I have and have studied it trying to see clues...maybe one day I'll figure this out!
