Here is a file that I have on John Pitzer, Junior and his wife Charlotte Davidson. William and Martha (Baker) Davidson moved from the Buckingham/Prince Edward Co., VA area to Botetourt in 1774 (bought land from a John and Elizabeth Murray). That land became part of Rockbridge Co., VA in 1778, and William and Martha moved again to what was still Botetourt in 1782 (bought land from a Mr. Greenlee). Their daughter named Charlotte Davidson married John Pitzer, Junior. Note: much of this file came from sources unverified by me, but it seems to have come from properly documented research. I have a great deal of additional information on the families of William and Martha (Baker) Davidson that I could e-mail you, if you are interested. I don't know, however, much more about the Pitzer's.

1 Charlotte Davidson-Born about 1775; died April 23, 1838

+ John Pitzer, Jr.-Born March 10, 1771 in Shenandoah, VA; died February 16, 1823; married January 13, 1794 in Botetourt County, VA. John was listed as “Captain” and as one of the first residents of Alleghany County, VA in 1822 (as was “Captain” Baker W. Davidson, Charlotte’s nephew). The Pitzer family owned an important store in the area. John Pitzer, Jr.’s parents were John (Senior) and Elizabeth (LNU) Pitzer. John Pitzer, Senior was born in Lancaster, PA about 1735, and he died April 1824 in Botetourt County, VA. The Pitzers were of German descent.

Children of John and Charlotte (Davidson) Pitzer, Jr.

2 William Pitzer-Born February 20, 1808; died ?

2 Martha Jane Pitzer-Born May 23, 1798; died November 6, 1845 in Boone, Indiana.

2 Charlotte Pitzer-Born May 27, 1798; died 1840 in Rockbridge County, VA.

2 James Davidson Pitzer-Born June 25, 1800; died April 29, 1851 in Boone, Indiana.

2 Nash Lagrande Pitzer-Born August 11, 1795; died July 18, 1854 in Boone, Indiana.

+ Jane Gilmore-Born ?; died ?; married November 27, 1817 in Ohio. Jane Gilmore was the APPARENT daughter of James Gilmore and Sarah “Sally” Davidson (from a different Davidson family; this different Davidson family was headed by a John and Mary (probably Mary Allison) Davidson, and they also produced the Robert Davidson who married ANOTHER Sarah "Sally" Davidson, namely, the daughter of William and Martha (Baker) Davidson of that same name).

3 Joseph Baker Pitzer-Born ?; died ?

2 John Pitzer-Born August 25, 1805; died March 11, 1882 in Illinois.

2 Joseph Baker Pitzer-Born December 5, 1814; died May 7, 1896 in Boone, Indiana.

2 Merrial (Mariel) Pitzer-Born December 25, 1802; died December 29, 1886 in Indiana.

Just to be clear, the Joseph Baker Pitzer who is shown in my file as "3" was the son of Nash Pitzer (and hence, a grandson of John Pitzer, Junior). When I "pasted" my file to this website, the "3" did not "indent" as I had hoped.

Just curious....is your Wills family the same as the Judith Wills who married the John Thompson who died in Botetourt in 1822 (as I recall)?

My Wills family came from Loudoun County, Va. (Benjamin b.1787 and Father Thomas C.Wills b.1765) Benjamin later living in Hampshire county. Thomas has two daughters we know about Elizabeth who married Robert Gooding and lived in Culpeper county and Anne who married Osborn Beaty who moved with Thomas to Henry county Tenn.in 1826.

Hi,
Am trying like the dickens to establish absolutely the link between William Pitzer b. 20 Feb. 1808 Botetourt VA d. 15 Aug 1887 Boone Co. IN. If I can positively get the connection that this is William's father then I believe I have the line from my grandfather back.
Am showing William married to:
Sarah Atvenson with two kids, Jonathan Milton and Sarah E.
Rebecca Findley with four kids: Martha L, Virginia E., Abel and MaryE.
then married to Louisa Lower with three kids: William Nelson, Luther C. and Charles B.
Then married to my gg-grandmother Lydie A. and three kids:
Philadelphia J, Rufus A and Mary...(some question if she was acutally Philadelphia's mother or if Louisa was)
and finally Gladys A. Clements (don't know of any children)
Any help pointing me in the right direction to establish this link positively with where to find documentation is appreciated!
Thanks so much!

John Pitzer Jr. did not leave a will. His property was distrubuted among his relatives. Listed in his distrubution are Nash, Davidson, and William. It does not say that they are sons. William married Lydia in 1870 and Rufus A. was born in 1876. William had 5 wives and 13 children. The first 4 died and he remarried. Nash was a Judge, Davidson a Minister ansd William a Lawyer. Your best bet is check in Boone County, Indiana for records. If you can connect William to one of his brothers they are documented back to John Jr.. John Jr.'s father was John Senior who served in the Rev. War. John Jr. was a sherif of Botetourt and a Captain of the militia in the War of 1812.
