LETTER OF ADMINISTRATION
THE ESTATE OF SILAS BALDWIN
TIOGA CO., NEW YORK
1810


The People of the State of NEW YORK by the Grace of God Free and Independent
To Isaac BALDWIN, administrator and Sally BALDWIN administratrix, wife and relict of SILAS BALDWIN, late of the Town of Elmira in the County of Tioga Deceased
Send Greeting----

Whereas due Proof having been made before Robert Lawrence, Surrogate of our said County of Tioga, to his satisfaction that the said SILAS BALDWIN is Dead and as is alleged lately died intestate, having while living and at the time of his Death, Goods, Chattels and Credits within this State, by means whereof the ordering and Granting Administration of all and Singular the said Goods Chattels and Credits, and also the auditing allowing and the final discharging the amounts thereof doth appertain unto us And we being desirous that the Goods Chattels and Credits of said deceased my be well and faithfully administered Applied and Disposed of Do grant unto you the said Isaac BALDWIN and Sally BALDWIN full power by these Presents to Administer and faithfully to dispose of all and Singular the said Goods Chattels and Credits. To Ask, Demand, Recover and receive the Debts which unto the said Deceased whilst living and at the time of his Death did belong. And also to pay the Debts which the said deceased did woe, as far as such Goods, Chattels and Credits will thereto extend and the Law Require. Hereby requiring you to make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and Singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased which have or shall come to your hands, Possession or knowledge and the same be made to exhibit or cause to be exhibited unto the office of the Surrogate of th County of Tioga at or before the expiration of ten calendar months from the Date hereof, And also to render a Just and true account of Administration when thereunto Legally required And we do by these presents Depute (illegible) and Appoint you the said Isaac BALDWIN, Administrator and Sally BALDWIN Administratrix of all and Singular the said Goods, Chattels, and Credits which were of the said SILAS BALDWIN, deceased.

In testimony whereof we have caused the Seal of Office of our said Surrogate to be herein affixed .Witness Robert Lawrence Esquire Surrogate of the Said County. And the Village of Newtown the Twenty First day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ten and of the Independence of the United States the Thirty Fourth.

My grandfather was Edward L. Baldwin, I am unsure of what his parents names were. I was wondering if you had any more information on the names listed here as far as children's names. Thank you.

Jamie Baldwin

My great grandfather was Silas Baldwin, born 1819 and his older brother James. They were in Preble, NY on the border of Cortland and Onodaga COunties in the 1830 census. Their father was also named Silas I presume. I wonder if htere is any connection?
