Looking for info on great-grandfather George Trojcak and family

Classification: Query
Surnames: Trojcak
Here's the information that I have on my family. My great-grandparents, George Trojcak and wife Elizabeth Levi Trojcak immigrated with infant daughter Anna around 1890. The story from family members is that George was involved in the death of a police officer and that's the reason for the move to the states. I don't know the circumstances around the story.

They are listed in census information from Virden and Chicago Illinois in 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 which states that they came from Austria/Hungary/Czeckoslovakia.

George's info from family records:
George Trojcak (Jan 1863-Jul 1929) born in Austria/Hungary

His parents:
Steve Trojcak - born in Austria/Hungary
Anna Kostkas - born in Austria/Hungary

Elizabeth's info from family records:
Elizabeth Levi (Nov 1866-Dec 1931) born in Austria/Hungary

Her parents:
Andrew Levvi/Levi- born in Austria/Hungary
Anna Wolf - born in Austria/Hungary

George Trojcak and Elizabeth Levi Trojcak's children:
Ann R Trojcak (1890-1989) born in Czechoslovakia
My grandmother - Elizabeth Trojcak (1901-1987) born in Illinois
Mary Trojcak (1896-1970) born in Illinois
John Paul Trojcak (1898-1962) born in Illinois
Mike Trojcak (1899-1979) born in Illinois
Stephen Trojcak (1903-1973) born in Illinois
Agnes Trojcak (1906-) born in Illinois
Julia Trojcak (1908-1983) born in Illinois

I'd like to find information on where George and Elizabeth were born and possibly info about the reasons they came to the State. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kathleen Devlin Monks

Still no precise place of birth for your TROJCAK ancestor?
I would think that the children's church baptismal record would provide you with parents place of birth.

This is the Austria-Hungary your ancestor came from
http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/austhung.htm where 12 different languages were spoken. What was language of your ancestors?

TROJC^AKs in Slovakia's phone book:

KOSTKAS^ in Slovakia:

Have you looked in NY Ellis Island site at TROJCSAKs, TROJCAKs, KOSTKAS manifest? Family went to family in the beginning. Possible someone arriving NY EI went to the address of your ancestor.

Is it possible that your LEVI/Y is a Slovak version of an Hungarian BALOG?

Did find a BALOG in Druzstevna pri Hornade's phone book.
http://www.zoznam.sk/hladaj.fcgi?co=telzoznam&s=balog&am...

BEDNAR in Druzstevna's phone book. This would be a Slovak spelling of Hungarian BODNAR.

Trojcsak, Janos Kisfaln 20 1883 1903
Trojcsak, Janos Kisfaln 33 1866 1899
Trojcsak, Mihaly Kisfaln, Hungary 38 1868 1906

It is clearly pointing to the present Slovak Republic for you research.

Hi Kathleen,

I glanced at some of the media you have here on your Ancestry tree on your MONKS side. I'm always fascinated seeing what can be found.
Especially for that reason, I'm puzzled by your present approach to finding your TROJCAK ancestors. You now have at least 10 identical cross-posts of your above query, and every one of them is on a board that is NOT in the area of Slovakia.
Yet two very knowledgeable members have tried to explain that everything leads toward present- day Slovakia as being where the TROJCAKs came from. It almost seems as if you haven't looked at any of the suggested information. If the family in 1910 stated "Hun Slovak", you need to be looking in Slovakia. If in 1920 they stated "Slavish", you need to be looking in Slovakia. I didn't bother looking at any more info.
It is rarely of any benefit to cross post as you have done.
Anyone wanting to help you has to wade through all the posts to see what, if anything, you have already found. And many will not even attempt it.
Is there some reason you have not posted this query on "Slovakia > General"? (just the one board...that will be enough) In fact, after you do that, you might want to delete at least the 9 posts that have had no response.
If we can help explain anything, please ask. Many of us greatly enjoy helping.

Good luck,
TOM

First, I'm wondering why you'd 'waste' time looking at the Monks tree. The Monks tree is my husbands and something I don't contribute to. And, I don't think it has much of anything on the Trojcaks to speak of.

Secondly, my focus since beginning my time here on Ancestry, which is less than a year, has been on my Norwegian side. If you'd like to take a gander at that feel free. It's extensive and has taken most of my time until now. I've found extremely helpful and kind folks who've provided rich resources for information into my Norwegian ancestry. I'm only now starting a serious Trojcak/Devlin search. I greatly appreciate those knowledgeable members who have taken time to provide information. That means more to me than someone who is sarcastic and condescending.

I won't bother to thank you because you obviously didn't post this in any way to be helpful. My suggestion to you is to provide helpful information instead of wasting your time and mine with meaningless drivel.
