Here is what I found for J. Hause:

Branson's Business Directory
Cabarrus County, NC, 1867-68
Hause's Grist and Saw Mill, Mt. Pleasant, J. Hause, Prop.

I'm not sure if this is the same person or not listed on the 1860 census, but it's in the same county, Cabarrus, as the Hause's Grist and Saw Mill above:

1860 Cabarrus County, NC census
Joe Hause, age 47 (b. ca. 1813) NC, carpenter, mulatto

The Joe Hause, age 47 born NC, that I found yesterday on the 1860 Cabarrus County, NC census was living with a John and Elizabeth Faggert and their children. Andrew Reed, age 19 born NC, mulatto, farm hand, was also living with this same John Faggert family.

On another page of the 1860 Cabarrus County, NC census I also found this Joel House, age 50, mulatto, carpenter, born NC, Value of personal estate: $125.00. This Joel House is living alone as head of household.

On the 1840 Cabarrus County, NC census is listed as being the only person in this household, Joel House, Free Colored Persons, 1 male age 24 & under 36.

The Joe Hause and Joel House on the 1860 census "MAY" have been the same person who was enumerated twice by the census taker. There was only one, Joel House, on the 1850 census for Cabarrus County.
