FYI - Bratislava Archives

I recently wrote to the Archives in Bratislava for records on my great grandfather using a form I got from the Mormon Library on line. The report was 4 pages long and went back to 1735! Their records start at 1733. The cost was $69. which I thought was quite reasonable for the amount of information I received - they went back 5 generations. My bank, however, charged me $40. to do an international wire transfer, which is required in order to get your report. The 4 pages were neatly typed (in Slovak) but the cover letter was in English. After they receive your request they do the research and send you a letter stating the cost and how to pay. When you wire the money they send the report my return mail. The whole process took about 8 weeks. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me or post here...Carol

Hi Renee - The address for the archives is:

Ministerstvo Vnutra Slovenskej Republiky
Statny Archiv V Bratislave
Krizkova 7, 811 04 Bratislava 1

I used a form I downloaded from he LDS church - this link should take you to it -

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/RG/frameset_rhelps.as...

Just click on PDF and it will open in a new window and you can print it. If the link doesn't work, just go to the LDS site, click on the Search tab, then Research Helps. On the left side, click on Sort by Document and click on Letter Writing Guide - the first one is Slovak.

I received at 5 page type written document that was taken from the local church records. It went back to 1820 and listed everything they had on my family. The cost was $69.00, which I didn't think was bad for the amount of information I received (6 generations). My bank, however, charged me $40.00 to do the direct transfer to the Archives bank account and I thought that was a bit much - it brought the price of the report to $109.00. The Archives request that you do the direct transfer but I would suggest you try offering them an International Postal Money Order - it is what I will try next time I have to write. They are very cheap and easy to get at the post office. It might delay your report for a bit (since they must receive the money before they send your report) but well worth it in my estimation.

Good luck and let me know if you need anything else...Carol
