May have a James McKee born abt 1757 County Down Ireland with wife Jane McGowan. James's son was David born abt 1798 same place. David's son was George born abt 1819 immigrated to Pittsburgh before 1861. George's children were James, Annie, Clara, James and Robert. If this sounds like your line please let me know. Thanks

Hello Debra! Hey thanks for e-mailing me. I wish I could say your people were my people, but I don't think so. They probably are cousins. There are so many James, David's, Hugh's, Thomas's, Robert's, etc. so it really is confusing! My McKees left Ireland and went to Butler or Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Iowa, and then Utah. Other McKees went to Canada, Virginia, and Kentucky. I've been doing some research the last couple of weeks to find out all this. I would say that all the McKee's around Saintfield, County Down are from the one brother from Scotland. Sorry to disappoint you. Good Luck. Sincerely, Mavis Bassett

Hi Mavis! Your McKees sound very similar to the ones I am trying to track down! I have a Thomas McKee, b. 1749 in County Down, d. Jun 1815, Butler County, PA. I believe his father was David. He married Martha Hoge, and had 12 children: David, Jane, James, Robert, Jennie, Hugh, Daniel, Leticia, John, Thomas, Daniel and Robert Hoge. Any matches there? Of course, I've very happy to share any information I know (or think I know...) about the family if you are interested.

Hello Steve! We have a match! I can't believe it!!! Hugh McKee born 1824 to David McKee and Mary Tweed McMillian is my gg grandfather. David and Mary died in Iowa but Hugh made it to Utah. I do have a picture of him. Where are you living? I live in Utah but I grew up in Idaho. Both my parents are from Utah, but moved to Idaho. I just completed the circle and came back. I've been researching the McKees back in Ireland and learning alot. They are originally from Scotland. I'm sure I don't know very much except what's on my pedigree charts. Where do you fit in? Thanks alot for the e-mail. Let's combine our genealogy. Bye for now. Mavis Bassett

Hi Mavis - I'm not sure if we have a match or not. The Hugh I mentioned is the son of Thomas (not David) who was born in 1749. If Hugh was born in 1824, his father was quite old. I do have a different Hugh, born Aug 8 1824, died Apr 30, 1886 in Indiana. His parents were James and Mary though. Still there's probably a match here somewhere! You can see the information I have online at http://koredesu.com. I'm not at all certain it is all correct, but I update it as I find better information. Please let me know if you find a match in there. Is your information on line anywhere? I live in Tucson, AZ. The Thomas McKee I mentioned is my 5th great grandfather, and I am descended from him through his son, Robert Hoge. My most recent McKee relative was Margaret McKee, my great-great-grandmother, who lived in Seneca Co, Ohio, but was born in Beaver Co, PA. Steve Baker

Hello Steve! Sorry! I have McKee papers all over the place and I'm new at this. I have the Thomas McKee and Martha Hogg line. I really think that's the name, because I heard the phrase Slippery Rock Hogg's from Pennsylvania. Look on Google for A Genealogy of the Hogg-McKee Family of Juniata County, Pa. and tell me what you think. I'll study this more tonight, and find out how else I can confuse you. Bye for now. Hi Mavis - Yes, we are talking about the same family, and the web site you pointed out was one of the sources of my information. This website lists Thomas and his son Robert Hoge. Not listed on the website is Robert's son James. I believe the information I have is accurate back to James, but I haven't proven to my satisfaction that James was the son of Robert Hoge McKee, although I have seen this link in other people's GEDCOMs. Do you have any information on this?
I see a Daniel McKee (brother of Robert Hoge McKee) who married a McMullin and moved to Utah. Is that your line?

Hi Steve! We just looked up Robert Hoge McKee on FamilySearch. His wife is Mary Martha(Polly) Montgomery? Their first child is James McKee born about 1827 in Pennsylvania, and died in Claysville, Washington, Pennsylvania. He married a Catherine before April 1, 1856 in Pennsylvania? I hope that helps. Look it up and check the rest of the information. Yes, the Daniel McKee who married Mary Tweed McMillian is my line. They didn't make it to Utah, but died in Iowa. Thanks for all your help. Hi Mavis - Yes, I have the information from that site. However, I've found that the FamilySearch site is often wrong, so I'm looking for any other documentation I can find. If you are interested, I can mail you a report of the information I have accumulated on the descendents of Thomas McKee, although little of has to do with your line. If you prefer, I can post a GEDCOM or pdf where you can download it.
I'd be very very interested in hearing anything you have found out about Thomas' ancestors in Ireland and Scotland.
Steve
