Anyone have have access to the New York 1855 State Census? If so, was County of Erie included in it? If anyone has access, let me know. I need a look up. Thank you.

Re: 1855 New York State Census
Yes, Erie county is included. I am not sure the records for that year are complete, though. I can't find my gg-grandfather and his family in it!! Ugh!
Who are you looking for? Do you know the specific town in Erie County? I will look tomorrow when I get home from work...off to bed now!

Re: 1855 New York State Census
Hi Deb,
Thanks for the reply. I am looking for Johann Christian Giermann and Sophia Maria Augusta Giermann (nee Dust) Joahnn, also known as John Giermann/Gearmann/Gearman/Gehrman/Garman was born abt 1818 Pommern Germany. 1860 Census shows him in Ward 7. He immigrated here in 1854 so he was not in the 1850 census and he died before the 1870 census. In 1855 he had one child Mathilda, don't know when the 1855 census was done so I don't know if she would be on it. She was born June 1855.

Re: 1855 New York State Census
I am sorry! I didn't find Johann/John, Sophie or Mathilda in 1855 or 1865. Nothing even close. Every variation of the surname brought up no matches. I really don't think the records are complete. Seems one of them should be there in 1865 if they were there in 1860! I have been through these census records looking for my Schraft and nothing. He was born in 1850 in Buffalo, Erie County! I wish I could have been more help.

Re: 1855 New York State Census
No problem. He died around 1863 and Sophie remarried a man named John Wedo. I did find them in the 1865 Census. Is there somewhere online that I can find the 1855 Erie Census?

Ancestry.com has the 1855 census. It is under the NYS census collection. They just recently added it.
