Hi There - If you have access to census records for the Monmouth Town area, and are willing to take the time to search for any Beach entry in any census, then it would be GREAT (have 1881 and 1901) or if you have family connections to Beach, or would like some info yourself, Beaches in Monmouth, Forest of Dean GLOS, South Herefordshire Thanks for any help.
cheers FRED from Monmouth Town

Well welcome to the family Joan in British Columbia, Samuel who married Eliza Paul are my Great grand parents, Beaches seem to have been in the area quite a while, Dixton and surrounding areas The Buckholt, The Kymin, Welsh Newton, Garway, Ganarew, Whitchurch, and across the river here in the Forest of Dean.
I am in the process of building a family tree of the Beach name in this area, not just my own family, the earliest I have found is 1545 in Newent, Beache, this goes back to the probable orogin of the name, Beche, de la Beche, a family who came with the Norman invasion. I have been told that there is a street in Cambridge called "Beche Street" but it is pronounced Beach.
Are you a Beach Joan? I guess we will both have a lot of questions, thanks for responding, bye for now FRED

Hi there Joan ,me again
I had a look around for Hopes, there are not many to be found, there is a strange one in the 1901 census Hannah Hope age 62, (1839) born United States Louis. living Marden near Hereford, and I think I may have found a Beach marrying a Hope, Agnes Hope nee ? born Monmouth, Bucknall? it will be The Buchholt where there were several families including an Agnes ?
I think you are going to be a Hope, here is your John Hope I think? he is older than you say ?

John Hope christened 27th February 1809 Westbury on Severn plus
James Hope christened 6th September 1807 Westbury on Severn
sons of James and Esther Hope
150 -200 years before were these
Guy Hope christened 7th January 1581 son of Thomas Hope
male Hope christened 21st November 1647 son of William Hope
Mary Hope christened 6th July 1651 daughter of William Hope

GARWAY
Anne Hope christened 9th April 1837 daughter of William and Sarah
Mary Hope christened 6th December 1845 daughter of John and Sarah
James Hope christened 21st April 1846 son of William and Sarah

I need to get to the record offices and fill in all the gaps, let me know where you need help and I will see what I can do. Have you been here ? do you know what these places look like ? bye for now Fred

Hi Christine
I will keep an eye out for Hester as it is often spelt back then, all I can tell you is that during the mid 1800s I have birth registrations for a Beach family in Crickhowell, which is not very far away from the area covered by Bedwellty. cheers Fred

Hi Joan - 2003 this thread started??? where did the time go?

Just to add John Hope is buried next to his son John, they are buried where I grew up, Wyesham just outside the town of Monmouth. There is a simple stone with JH next to the sons grave, they died in the same year. So I walked by that grave stone all my life and didn't know until the end of last year. cheers Fred
