Do you know of the family members of this Klein settlement, how it came about, I would appreciate any info, ty

My great grandmother was a Klein, and my father grew up in the area. He was a Haas, and his family home was east of Atlanta. In 2000, I went to Michigan for a family reunion, and looked up the klein settlement. It is still in existence. I met some of my cousins. They have an extensive genealogy of the Klein family, and hold a Klein family reunion each year at the end of July. It is located in the township of Rust, south of Hillman. The Kleins I met lived on Klein Rd. Are you a descendant of the Kleins?

Yes this is the right family, I have come across the Haas name but, I lost a lot of stuff with computer trouble.

Yes, I believe we have the same family. I got your email as well, and will respond soon. Just wanted to post some information here regarding the family line. According to my information Philipp Peter Klein and Maria Katharina Berndt are the parents of Daniel Klein. Daniel Klein married Juliana Matzenbacher. These four were all born in germany. Daniel and Juliana had 12 children, one being Caroline, your grandmother, and one named Anna Mary (the name appears in various forms) who was my great grandma. She married Allan Haas. Both were born in Waterloo, Ontario. I didn't realize this until reading your email. I think the two families must have know each other while in Canada, and Allan then followed the Kleins down to Michigan. I would like to find out the true story behind this waterloo connection. We have Haas relatives still living in Canada.

I think we met in Hillman at the Klein reunion. At the cemetery first. I do have a copy of the article about the pioneer settler Daniel B Klein. Plus I have several copies of the birth, death, and marriage records in Montmorency County. several pictures of the headstones in the Hillman/Rust cemetery.

Yes, I remember you. Sorry it took so long to reply. My mother's been sick, and things have been kind of hectic. Last summer my mother and brother went back to Michigan to do more research. They intended to go to the reunion again, but it was canceled. Hopefully it will take place again next year. They did get to meet with some of the Kleins.
