I recently discovered scotlandspeople.gov.uk which i found was amazing showed much clearer documents and details of my ancestors that ancestry website, however it got to a point where i kept running out of credits i have spent about £18 so far on 90 credits and near enough spent up. ive gone a fair way back with my tree looking at these documents and then decided i wanted to come forward to present day through other siblings of ancestors. This posed a problem as i didnt know if they had died young or not married so the first thing i did was put them into the search field to find a marriage. The only way i could find if they were the right one is if there father matched up on the parish record. 24 results came up, that would cost me £24 thats alot of money.

Has anyone else found that this site gets to a point where its not worth paying so much for so little back. I have emailed them suggesting to add a subscription service like this site however i dont see them doing that if there making so much already as it is.

Hi, if you live or are near Glasgow, you can book a day at the Mitchell library family history centre.

It costs £15 from 9.30am till 4pm and you have access to all records in Scotland, it's real value for money and you get everything and more thats contained in the Scotlands People site.

I have been considering this website as my family emigrated from there in about 1850s. The pay-per-view has made me quite hesitant to try it for the very reason you mention - getting too many random returns to view before being able to find any relevant ones. Could I ask, how many files were you able to view for those 90 credits, and how far back were you able to find documents for? Unfortunately, I live too far away for a trip to the Glasgow Library.
