know one in my family can seem to keep stories straight as to my heritage. My grandfather Gregory Albert Orth is the oldest of I believe 7 children. He was the only person from my family that had any clues as to where my family originated. however he died in 1982 and prior to that none of my family cared to know our heritage. Now that there is interest no one knows where to start to find out where we originated. We have always thought we were of German heritage but really have nothing to base that on if you can give any hints as to what I should do to get started I would greatly appreciate it!

orth is a german name. my g.g grandfather's name
was von orth. the von part is a title. he sold his
title to someone. my orth's were from alsace(? spelling)
it is on the border of germany and france.i
will call my g.ma and ask if she recogonizes
the name u gave me.perhaps ur family was von orth also.
my g. grandpa invented seltzer water.. what is known today
as carbonated water, but he sold the patent to someone..because
he didnt know what he had. so this person marketed it and got
filthy rich. i will call her today and get back to u.

My grandfathers name was not Gregory ALbert it was Gregory Francis Orth, his brothers names were Albert, Edward, Patrick,Dennis (sisters were) Genevieve, Mary, Joan. My great gradfathers name was i believe ALbert ( I may be wrong though.) I have more records at home and I will try to get more information. Maybe some of this will trigger something for your grandmother.. THANK YOU for you help! Dawn

Dawn there is more infomration out there than you know. Check the 1920 census; check voting records, look for obits on family members, marriage records, death certi-ficates. Get every name you can from family members and start by going backwards. Good luck.

I have been told that our family is also from alsace. My grandfather's name was Hans Heinrich Orth b. 1910 in England. He had 5-6 brothers and 1-2 sisters. One brother was named Bill and moved to Nevada, one sister named Annie who lives in Bromley, England. My great grandfather's name was also Hans Heinrich and he married a Fredirika Greyanfumiller (sp?) however I do not know anything more as my grandfather refused to talk about his family and their hertitsge. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Thanks
