I doubt if they are the same Greene's or Greenberg's that I was asking about as I do not know of any from Chicago, even though there was an Alexander Greenberg but he married a Rebecca Shime-they were from Romania and probalby settled in Bradford, Pa. And they did have a son who went by the name of Sol Greene, who had 2 children-Rob't Henry and Bette Greene. The person who is more closely related to these folks is Todd Halpern, a great grandson of the father of Alexander Greenberg-his EM address is tahech@erols.com and I'm sure he could reply more accurately about this then I can.
I am more interested in the Brantz side of this family-todd's great grandmother was the sisiter of my grandfather.

Hi, noticed you have a Greenberg ancestor from Braila. My husband's Greatgrandfather was from there, so we believe. His name was Alexander Greenberg/burg. He married a Mary Sprott (in Scotland) and came to Chicago, IL USA, not sure exactly when this was though. Could we be cousins? Mary

I'm looking up Sicilia Greenburg . Her family came Romania later 19th century she married Emmanule Freedman of New York and had two sons Bob and Jerome.

I do not know if I ever knew of my Grandmother's father's name. I will try to check her gravestone to see if it is inscribed there. Do you know anything about the migration of your ancestors to here. The change from Goldstein to Fuchs seems like it could be due to a marriage.
There was a family of Goldstein's on the boat that my Grandmother and her family came on in 1907 but I think the name of the father was Albert-he was 58 at that time. His wife was 56, and her name is also difficult to make out - might be Lure Rivke, and 2 children, a 13 yr old girl? with name Paulina? and a 16 yr old boy named Benjamin. the clerk's script is difficult to interpret in many cases.

I have a great grandfather named Abraham Goldstein. Not sure but I thought someone told my father that the real name was Fuchs and then was changed in the U.S. I do know that he was from somewhere in Romania. Was married to a Sarah Isaacs.

Thanks for the info,but the Goldstein I am looking for is Abraham. His name might have been Fuchs in Romania, but was changed on the boat coming over. They came over and lived in Pittsburgh before Abraham died and his wife, Sarah came to Detroit. Does any of this sound familiar?

My Grandmother, Amalia Goldstein Brantz, mentions an Alter Goldstein in her writings as a 16 yr. old in 1881 in Bacau, Romania. At this time we do not know the context of her writing, but I am making plans to mail some of her writings to a researcher in Romania to have them translated. She married Moses Brantz and they had 7 children in Braila.
BTW, Amalia did have a sister Fannie, but I only knew her as Fannie Brownstein. It is possible that Brownstein was her second husband.
