My husbands great grandfather is James Curtis born in 1887 in Virgin Arm married to Dorcas Bridger. His father is William T. Curtis born in 1847 Carters Cove believed to be married to Amy Wheeler in 1870. His Father is William B. Curtis born in 1818 in Bristol, England do not know who he was married to.

Does anyone have any information on this family line? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Tom,
I privately e-mailed a reply to you but hadn't heard back. I've been having some computer problems.
My husbands grandfather (Ernest Curtis) says that his grandfather was William Curtis supposedly married to Amy Wheelor. I am able to find a marriage record for them but after that they seem to fall off the face of the earth. Do you have information on who James and Paul's parents are?
Any help you can send my way would be greatly appreciated.

My husband's ancestral tree has a Rose Curtis, born 1881 in Horse Island, Notre Dame Bay. Rose married Francis (Frank) Fox. Frank's mother was a Rideout. Rose was the daughter of Joseph Curtis and Keziah Hull. The whole family emigrated to the USA. I have a little more information if this is the same family and if you wish to get in touch. I would also welcome any additional information on the family if anyone has anything to share.

Sophia Susan CURTIS is my Great-great-grandmother. The information I have found so far is:

Sophia Susan CURTIS, b. 29 Feb 1844 in Twillingate, d. 6 Mar 1919 in New York,
dau. of William Thomas CURTIS and Hannah YEATS/YATES,b. 1816 Twillingate, Nfd., dau. of William YATES and Ann BROWN.

William and Hannah had 7 children:

1. M. Francis b. Twillingate, Nfd.
2. F. Jane b. 29 Jul 1837, Twillingate, Nfd.
3. F. Ann b. 1 Feb 1840, Twillingate, Nfd. d.17 Sep 1862 m. Thomas Peter YATES
4. F. Frances b.11 Nov 1840, Twillingate, Nfd.
5. M. Joseph b. 25 Nov 1842, Twillingate, Nfd.
6. F. Sophia Susan
7. M. John b. 4 Dec 1843, Twillingate, Nfd.
Sophia married Alfred RIDEOUT on the 21 of Oct, 1862 in Twillingate, Nfld. and they had 11 children.
Sophia Susan Curtis RIDEOUT later moved to New York, New York and died there on the 6 Mar 1919.

If anyone could help to place this family and extend my research I would appreciate it. I also have and need more information ton the RIDEOUT side of the family.

I too am looking for Curtis's and need help. My great-grandmother was Janet Curtis died in 1906, she was married to Edward Roberts he died in 1904.In her wedding annoucement it states her father was John Curtis. When Janet died she left one daughter and two brothers to her sister Rowena Curtis and or George Phillips. I have John Curtis's father as William and Hannah Yates. any help appreciated. Thanks Barb

I can't find where John actually had a son named John. What I find if you follow John Curtis, son of William Thomas Curtis and Hannah Yates is John born in 1845 married Mary Anstey (she died) then married Sarah Ann House in 1868 (Sarah Ann was previously married to John Goudie who died). I can find the following girls born to John and Sarah Ann: Bessie Ann August 1880, Rowena Blackler September 1882, Ethel Blanche November 1884 and Ella May April 1887. Now I can also find a few kids born to a John and Ann but I'm not sure if it is the same line because it doesn't give the mother's maiden name. Twin daughters Margaret Ann and Sarah Agnes born July 1872, Frank born 1878 and Phoebe born 1877.
