Do you have an ancestor who served in the Warwicks in the Great War? If so, maybe I can help. I have details of 38,000 men who did serve in the regiment. Send me your ancestor's details and I will look them up. I must warn you, my database is still incomplete but, you never know... All I ask in return is that if you have any details, that I don't, then you will share them with me and help the database continue to grow.

Thank you very much. Look forward to hearing from you. Tonia Havard.

I wonder if you have any information on my great uncle Thomas Yates who was killed in Belgium in 1915.
At the time his home address was Landor Street, Aston, Birmingham.

Hello Robert, I wonder if you have my grandad on your database. He was Frank Hinson, born 1895 and served with the Royal Warwickshires from 1915 - 1918 we think. He was fortunate that although he was in the trenches, he survived without injury. He was living at Co op Street, Coventry with his parents before and after the war. I have a photo of him in his uniform in 1919, and would love to be able to find out more about his experiences of the war, many thanks, Sally

Liz,
I have two Thomas Yates being killed in 1915 but I think this one is your relative.
Corporal 9747 Thomas Yates served in the 1st Battalion and landed in France on 22 August 1914. He therefore received the 1914 Star and that made him an Old Contemptible. He also received the War & Victory medals and his next of kin would have received a Memorial Plaque. He died on 25 April 1915 during the second battle of Ypres. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial. He was 30 years old. According to my records he was the brother of Mrs Esther READ, 2 Victoria Buildings, Landor St, Saltley, B'ham. His address was 66 Adderley Rd, Saltley. He was mentioned in the Birmingham Weekly Post on 5.6.15 and 12.6.15, and there is a photo of him. He was mentioned in the Birmingham Daily Post on 1 June 1915. I hope that this is of use, and if you have any further info please let me know.

Re: Frank Hinson
I am afraid that I have only one F Hinson and all I know about him at present is that he had the regimental number 14923, was a Private and was listed in the Birmingham Daily Post on 8 September 1916 as being wounded. This meant that he was probably wounded sometime around the end of July.
Sorry there's so little.

Tonia,
I have found your relative, Private 9315 O. Wilson. He landed in France on 2 May 1915 and this entitled him to the 1914-15 Star, War Medal & Victory Medal. He was invalided out of the army on 4 June 1916. For this he would have been awarded a Silver War Badge; a lapel badge to be worn in civvies to show he had served. I believe he was invalided out due to sickness, rather than wounds, as he has not shown up in my casualty list.
As yet I cannot confirm his battalion. Hope this is OK?

Great Idea! My Grandfather's brother, Thomas Frederick Johnson left with Rugby Volunteers during first week of war. He died May 9th 1915 in Belgium, 21 years.I have been to visit his gravesite at La Plus Douve Farm.
I have collected several pieces of information on him and was wondering whether you had any that I didn't. Meanwhile I will sort out the information I have gathered and send it to you.
Thank You.

Dee,
You sound as if you've probably got all that I have, but here goes:
Corporal TF Johnson, number 751, of E Company 7th Battalion. He left for France on 22 March 1915 (with the original contingent). This meant he qualified for the 1914-15 Star, as well as the War Medal & Victory Medal. He died on 9 May 1915, and as you say is buried at La Plus Douve Farm Cem/V/C/5. He was 21 when he died. He was the son of Thomas & Margaret, of 76 Lawford St, Rugby. He was listed in the Birmingham Daily Post of 4 June 1915 as killed. His parents would also have received the Memorial Plaque, bearing his name.
La Plus Douve Farm was Battalion HQ for the Warwickshire Territorials when they first landed and all of the men at La Plus Douve from the regiment are the earliest casualties. Two men died on the same day as your relative, and only two had previously been killed in the battalion.

I believe that my great-grandfather served with the Warwickshires. His name was Thomas J Hanson from Birmingham. I have done some research on this but can't find a Hanson that fits his description.
Any help would be appreciated.
