I am looking for info about a Robert William Parry who was born in Caernarfon. He married in The Isle of Man in 1909 and gave his mother's name as mary. His father was according to family stories a Blacksmith also in Caernarfon. Thank you

You are faced with what seems like a very difficult task indeed in searching for the origins of your Robert William Parry. However as with many of these queries it pays so often to think outside the box!
All the trails I followed for such a Parry child with Parry parents(Mother Mary) led nowhere. In the end before quite frankly giving up on the matter,I searched for a Robert born c 1883 in the 1891 census with no Surname, but with a mother Mary, again with no surname.
Among the entries given, one took my eye that of a Robert William Jones showing as born in Caernarvon in c 1883 and given in the Index as the son of a William and Mary Jones. However the actual entry shows that this Robert William's surname was almost certainly Parry for it appears to have been crossed out. Also living with William and Mary is apparently Mary's father,a William Parry given as born in c 1822,a Coal Merchant. RG12/4661/53/14.
Regards William Russell Jones.

North Wales BMD gives a marriage of a Mary Parry to a William Jones in 1889 as a "Caernarfon Civil Marriage.
As for the William Parry given in 1891,tracking him through the Census years gives the following entries; 1881,RG11/5569/79/12. 1871,RG10/5721/39/29. 1861,RG9/4342/68/18.
In 1851,the actual entry does give William's father; HO107/2516/38/22.
Regards William Russell Jones.

As for the Jane wife of William Parry, again North Wales BMD gives the marriage of a William Parry to a Jane Rogers at Caernarfon St Peblig in 1859.
This could well be Jane with father Thomas in 1851; HO107/2512/553/58.
I think that the Catherine listed as Thomas's wife may well not be Jane's mother given both her age and the ages of Thomas's children.

Thank you for all of this information. It will give me another avenue to pursue. As you can imagine tracing anyone called Parry in N Wales is a nightmare Best Wishes Margaret

Its no problem at all Margaret.Have you got your own access to the Census?
Regards William Russell Jones.

I have looked on the census and the change of name from Parry to Jones is very obvious. Perhaps a child of a previous marriage or an illegitimate birth. Anyway this is the nearest I heve come to finding the elusive Robert William. It might also explain why only his mother appears on marriage record. Best wishes margaret

I was wondering how you came to know the mother's name!
