Hi Jenni,
I found the marriage for Cosmo and Emmeline on the Western Australian online indexes.
They married in Fremantle, Western Australia in 1909.

I also tried searching for children but there was no matching births for children with parents cosmo and emmeline.

If you ordered Cosmo's death certificate it should state if there was any children.

Found his death on the indexes.

Surname.. Gibson
Given Names... Cosmo W
Registration district.. Perth
Registration Number.. 1617
Registration Year.. 1920

with these details you can order the certificate for $30 instead of the usual $42. You can download order forms from www.justice.wa.gov.au

Hope this is of some help

Regards
Lee

Hi Lee,

Thank you for your reply today and for the information re Cosmo Gibson.

I'm fairly certain that Cosmo Wallace Gibson is my husband's great grandfathers' brother. I have ordered Cosmo and Emmeline's marriage certificate which will hopefully tell me who his parents were. I'm also eager to see who witnessed the marriage as there are two other Gibson brothers, Frank and Arthur, unaccounted for. Interestingly I have found the deaths of a Frank and Arthur Gibson in WA...their ages at death tie in with the two men I'm searching for.

I'm interested to know your connection to Cosmo Gibson.

Thank you once again for being in touch.

Kind regards,

Jenni Gibson

Hi Jenni,

I can't offer much information about Cosmo Wallace Gibson, but I can offer a connection - Cosmo's mother was Elizabeth Anne Wallace (cir 1836-1886), who was the older sister of my great-great-grandfather Hugh Robertson Wallace (cir 1841-1918). I have CW Gibson on my family tree, having traced him via the BDM records at the National Library - he was the 6th of at least 8 children by my reckoning.

Cheers

Hi Steve,

I'm really pleased to hear from you. My husband descends from Cosmo Wallace and Margaret Robertson who married in London in 1777. I am very interested in learning more about your Wallace line. I believe your gg grandfather married Mary Hannah Bolitho in NSW in 1870 and that they had at least 8 children. I have marriages for two of those children (Ellen and Jessie) but I know no more than that. If you are interested I would be happy to send you a copy of my Wallace report...would you like to share information? If so, my email address is gibeldine@yahoo.com.au

Thank you for getting in touch and I hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Jenni

I have been reading your replies with interest. I have Gibsons in WA in my tree though I don't think they are related. But I do think I have some info re the missing brothers Arthur & Frank.

These appear to be their marriages in Victoria:

Surname: GIBSON
Given Names: Arthur
Event: M
Spouse Surname: RINTOUL
Spouse Gvn Names: Elizabeth Thompson
Birth Place: WINDSOR
Year: 1886
Reg Number: 3806V

Surname: GIBSON
Given Names: Frank
Event: M
Spouse Surname: LILLIE
Spouse Gvn Names: Alice Baird
Birth Place: WINDSOR
Year: 1886
Reg Number: 6561

I say this because there is a Frank GIBSON buried alongside an Alice Baird GIBSON in Karrakatta Cemetery WA. See www.mcb.wa.gov.au, and the ages fit years of birth. Alice was born in Carisbrook Victoria in 1864 to Jas & Isabella nee ALLAN (reg 20461).

Frank & Alice had a son named Wm Vivian Lillie GIBSON in 1887 in Prahran but he died the following year aged 10 months. Then they had Frank Norman (b. 1889 Malvern Vic, m. Ebba MOURITZEN 1914 Perth, d. 1957 Sth Perth),Ethel Isabel (b. 1892 Essendon Vic, m. Guy Barker ROSSI 1920 Perth, d. 1977 Subiaco WA), and Wilfred Allan (b. 1895 Fremantle WA). The Rossis are buried together with the Gibsons in the same family grave (see www.mcb.wa.gov.au)

Let me know if you would like Arthur jnr's children as well, or if you are missing any other chn's bdms.

Cheers
Cherilyn

Hi Cherilyn,

I can't thank you enough for your message as you have solved a mystery for me!! While I have known for some time what became of Frank and Alice Gibson, I had not found anything about Arthur. He has, until today, been the only child of Arthur Gibson and Elizabeth Anne Wallace who I could not account for. I don't know why I had never seen his marriage to Elizabeth Rintoul before but I agree it would seem to be him. I have just found the births of their two children (Elizabeth and Dorothy) and am now searching for further information re this family, so far without luck. So thank you once again for what you have sent me....you have absolutely made my day. And good luck with your Gibson research...who knows, we may have a connection waiting to be discovered. I'll certainly keep you in mind as I continue my Gibson research.

Kindest regards,

Jenni Gibson

Hi Jenni

Happy to help :-)

Just found Elizabeth's death in Victoria (Yarraville), she must have remarried:

Surname: EBELING
Given Names: Eliz Thompson
Father: Rintoul Henry
Mother: Alison Craig STEWART
Death Place: YVILLE
Age: 85
Year: 1949
Reg Number: 10452
Event: D

Interesting...daughter Dorothy Wallace MITCHELL died in Yarraville in 1959 aged 67 (reg 6389) and daughter Muriel Alice EBELING (!) died in Melbourne in 1974 aged 85 (reg 2226), father shown as Arthur GIBSON! Then there is a son named Lancelot Douglas EBELING who died 1973 aged 67 (reg 11561), father Claus and mother Elizabeth Th Rintoul!

I then looked for Claus' death: he died in 1948 in Yarraville aged 89 (reg 9948), father unknown, mother Karen RASMUSSEN. [He was born in Eaglehawk Victoria in 1859, prior to his parents' marriage in 1861 - his father was also Claus, mother Karin/Karen/Qaran/Caroline. Birth reg under both surnames].

Okay...on the trail now...

Have found birth in 1905 in Footscray, as Douglas Ernest Lancelot EBELING, to Claus EBELING & Elizabeth Thompson Rintoul - so that seals it. Tho it doesn't explain why daughter Muriel took the surname EBELING.

Aha! Elizabeth Thompson GIBSON married Claus EBELING in 1901 (reg 7368). He was born in Bendigo.

Claus' first wife Frances Madeline RUMPF died aged 34 in Footscray in 1899. They married in 1892 and had 2 children (Claud Roy in 1893 and Jack Darryl 1899).

I can't find a death nor a remarriage for Arthur. No rcan I see him leaving Victoria 1891-1896. Their divorce is not listed at http://www.macbeth.com.au/cgi-bin/divsearch.pl

So he remains a mystery. But at least we know what happened to Elizabeth T Rintoul!

:-)
Cherilyn

P.S. Hey how about this - it looks like Muriel married her stepbrother Claud[e] Roy EBELING - that explains why she died an EBELING with father GIBSON ;-) Can't find their marriage but she is his next of kin on his WWI enlistement, see http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx Sadly, he was wouded in action and died from those wounds.
