Hi
JenniHappy to help :-)
Just found Elizabeth's death in Victoria (Yarraville), she must have remarried:
Surname:
EBELINGGiven Names: Eliz
ThompsonFather:
Rintoul Henry
Mother:
Alison Craig
STEWARTDeath Place: YVILLE
Age: 85
Year: 1949
Reg Number: 10452
Event: D
Interesting...daughter Dorothy Wallace MITCHELL died in Yarraville in 1959 aged 67 (reg 6389) and daughter
Muriel Alice
EBELING (!) died in
Melbourne in 1974 aged 85 (reg 2226), father shown as Arthur
GIBSON! Then there is a son named Lancelot Douglas
EBELING who died 1973 aged 67 (reg 11561), father
Claus and mother Elizabeth Th
Rintoul!
I then looked for
Claus' death: he died in 1948 in Yarraville aged 89 (reg 9948), father unknown, mother Karen
RASMUSSEN. [He was born in Eaglehawk Victoria in 1859, prior to his parents' marriage in 1861 - his father was also
Claus, mother Karin/Karen/Qaran/Caroline. Birth reg under both surnames].
Okay...on the trail now...
Have found birth in 1905 in Footscray, as Douglas Ernest Lancelot
EBELING, to
Claus EBELING & Elizabeth
Thompson Rintoul - so that seals it. Tho it doesn't explain why daughter
Muriel took the surname
EBELING.
Aha! Elizabeth
Thompson GIBSON married
Claus EBELING in 1901 (reg 7368). He was born in Bendigo.
Claus' first wife Frances Madeline
RUMPF died aged 34 in Footscray in 1899. They married in 1892 and had 2 children (
Claud Roy in 1893 and Jack Darryl 1899).
I can't find a death nor a remarriage for Arthur. No rcan I see him leaving Victoria 1891-1896. Their divorce is not listed at
http://www.macbeth.com.au/cgi-bin/divsearch.plSo he remains a mystery. But at least we know what happened to Elizabeth T
Rintoul!
:-)

P.S. Hey how about this - it looks like
Muriel married her stepbrother
Claud[e] Roy
EBELING - that explains why she died an
EBELING with father
GIBSON ;-) Can't find their marriage but she is his next of kin on his WWI enlistement, see
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx Sadly, he was wouded in action and died from those wounds.
