ello, my great grandmother María Alemán
Artiles, born around 1890, daughter of Ana
Artiles Pareda and José Alemán Álvarez, arrived in
Santiago de Cuba’s port around 1904 (14 years old) with two older brothers (no names). She stayed working as a maid and her brothers traveled on to some place in South
America, or so we think, they never made contact again. We don’t know their place of birth, but in the genealogy forums I was told that the
Artiles family came from Agüimes,
Gran Canaria, and also de Alemán family, or maybe Allemán. Sorry about any grammatical mistakes, my
English is not so good.
