I saw a stone "statue" for Cook's Mills on Lyon's Creek RD a while ago. If memory serves you turn east onto Lyon's Creek Rd from Doan's Ridge/Moyer Rd.

I believe it is a corner lot of field but farther down the road is Cook's Mills Church (unfortunately there isn't a cemetery there.

Hope this helps you,
good luck
Cheryl

Does anyone out there know EXACTLY where I might find the remains, ruins or whatever is left of the original Cook's Mills. It was somewhere on Lyon's Creek, possibly in Crowland Twp. During the War of 1812, a minor skirmish took place there in Oct. 1814, a few months prior to the Battle of Lundy's Lane.
Also, I'm looking for Latshaw Cemetary, listed as being beside a Methodist Church on Lundy's Lane circa 1845ish. Could this be a fore-runner of Lundy's Lane Cemetary or an adjunct to Drummond Hill? Thanx.

Would you by any chance know where I might find Doan's Ridge Cemetary? I think some of my line are there and I would like to visit and research. I know the area a little bit so I think I could probably find it. Tim

Hi Tim;
Doan's Rodge cemetery is very close to the Cook's Mills Church. If you take Moyer/Doan's Ridge Rds South there is a very tiny sign that says Doan's Ridge Cemetery. It is on Ridge Rd, turn East. It is a very nice cemetery, I have been through it in search of my relatives. There are a lot of stones most are still readable and it is kept up very well.
Good luck with your search.

Hello
The Cooks Mill, was owned and run by the YOKOM family at the time of the Battle, They were taken over by the Americans who used their home for a hospital, and burned it when they left. The house has been rebuilt several times, and is STILL occupied by the YOKOM family. The land for Doans Ridge Cemetery was given by the YOKOM family and there is a large boulder there with the information, engraved on a bronze plate.. ALL of the YOKOM, PRATT and most of the BUCHNER NEFF and EARLY DOAN buied there are my family.

Hi,
I grew up in Cook's Mills, went to public school there as well. Cheryl's directions are pretty good, to both places.

I don't believe there is anything left of the mill itself that was built in Cook's Mills, maybe part of the foundation or at least the location of it. You'd have to ask some of the older folks that live around there as to exactly where it was. Cook's Mills is a very small village, a couple of main roads, a public school, a church, and a baseball field, even the gas station is closed now. If you do visit there, look for the names Misener or Chambers on the mailboxes, they might be able to give you some history about Cook's Mills.

The monument that Cheryl described is located on the old Misener farm on the corner of Lyon's Creek Rd and Misener Rd. That's where the battle took place, on either side of the creek. I have the listings for Doan's Ridge Cemetery older sections, which names were you looking for specifically?

As for Latshaw Cemetery, I know I've heard the name mentioned before and I believe it has to do with the Lundy's Lane Cemetery not Drummond Hill. Ask Mr. Dalton, he might be able to answer that question better.

Hope this helps you in some small way,
Ellen

I am researching an unknown NEFF who married Margaret Mueller/Miller probably mid 1800's, Welland Co., ONT.

She was the daughter of Johann Mueller (John Miller?) They were probably married in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Fisherville ONT.

Any help or connections?

I just caught up with a message you posted somewhere last year, seeking the location of the Latshaw cemetery somewhere in Niagara Falls.

I have never heard it called the Latshaw Cemetery, but there is a cemetery that originally lay in the shadow of the Lundy's Lane Methodist Church across from Drummond Hill Cemetery on Lundy's Lane. It is now immediately adjacent to the Lundy's Lane United Church, on Lundy's Lane just west of Main Street (5825 Lowell St., at Lundy's Lane). In fact, the cemetery is just east of that church, maybe 50 yards north of Lundy's Lane. Another way to find it --- just find a local map and look for Latshaw Street. The cemetery is right near there.

The cemetery may be called the Latshaw Cemetery by some just because among those buried there are John Latshaw (d1883) and his wife Mary Durham (d1870).

Are you researching the family of Drummondville architect John Latshaw? If you are, I would like to talk with you about our respective findings. I have a lot I can share with you.

Dr. Neff was attending physician --- looking for help locating Lutheran Churches & records in Wainfleet

I have a copy of a letter naming a Dr. Neff as the attending physician... the family he attended was Lutheran.
Can you help me with Lutheran churches in Wainfleet. Is Trinity Lutheran Church in Fisherville near Wainfleet?
Where would I look for Lutheran Church records?
Thank you.
